Any swimmers here?
We recently moved into a new condo and we have a pool now so I have been swimming 3 to 4 times a week for about a months and a half now. I have worked my way up to 50 minutes straight and from the number of laps and the lenght of the pool I calculate I swam 7040 feet tonight, which I think is about 1 and 1/3 miles, or 2.15 km. This works out to an average speed of 1.6 miles per hour or 2.6 km per hour. I just wanted to know if this is a decent time for that lenght, and if I keep it up what is a good distance to shoot for a 60 minute swim. Is 2 miles in an hour too much to hope for?
Thanks, JP

I used to swim the mile competatively in around 20-25 min. i think, but that was a long time ago. Two miles in an hour would be a pretty high goal.

I used to swim recreationally in college. My routine was to do 1/2 mile in one hour. I couldn't swim continuously and had to take lots of breaks because my side would hurt for some unknown reason. I'd say you're doing pretty good.

I try to do 5.68 miles (100 100yds) once every five days, but lately I never get a chance. It's not really speed, but distance. I try to do 100 yards, take a 15 second break, and repeat.

All summer a swim a 500 a day,(im a lifeguard) I know its not too incredibly much, but it adds up. I can accomplish this in about 15 minutes.
