But I also like the flavor absorption characteristics of white rice. True, it is deprived of it's natural exotic flavor and character, but it easily adds balance to a complex dish, absorbing flavors from each constituent and returning a strong structure for the looser items.

That was delicately nuanced -- kudos.

Thanks. I try to do that when I write as often as possible, but it doesn't usually work so well and when it does, it seems to pass unnoticed. Fortunately in this case, it was slow pitch with a big ball.

It's just a game I play and mean no harm.

Sorry, but as you probably already realize, that's the only way I could have possibly noticed. :D

Persians have a way of doing Basmati rice that I love, but just can't get right - anybody know the trick?

I don't like rice. People throw it at the bride and groom at weddings, and then the cute little birds fly down and eat it, and then their stomachs get all distended, and sometimes it kills them, and that makes me very sad. :(

........*Yaaawwwn*..........

Oh, pardon me. I almost dozed off there for a second.

Persians throw a bunch of butter in the rice, and put bread on the bottom of the pan and i guess it gets all crunchy and tasty...i think they use saffron too.

I like rice served with a main entree

Grilled or Baked Pork Chops with Rice and cream gravy
Chinese food served with Rice

In Texas... Rice with cream gravy and bisquits are exceptionally good. :D

Its good I know............same with the afgans....they have a certain way of doing things.........just can't duplicate it.....even after numerous time of having the process explained to us.

Ah, rice, the staple food for Asians :) I have travelled to many places in Asia in my younger days, including the jungles of Borneo. There are so many ways of spice up the rice and ,yet, at the same time many people prefer to eat the plain rice with dishes. Different regions in Asia, prefer different kind of rice. To me, it is always fun to taste the different ways of cooking the rice :)

Anyone having second thoughts about the extra helping of rice???
