Jasmine rice does indeed kick total ass. It was quite a change from the Basmati rice I've been used to my whole life.

My mother puts rice and herbs in tomato soup. It's pretty good I must say.

Exclamation

Brown rice cooked with half chicken broth half water. Just plain good. Often have it cold for breakfast.

My favorite dish; brown rice, pork chops, cream of mushroom soup, extra shrooms, garlic, and a little onion. Bake. Really good!

A little white rice every so often, Jasmine. Really good with the half chicken broth method.

My dog loves all rice. When I cook rice he lines up for his share. I always mix some in with his regular food.

Speaking of variety of rice, there used to be 3200 different kinds in India according to IRRI, now its been reduced to 250, out of them, true Basmati rice is the undisputed king of aroma, nothing and I mean nothing comes close, sadly most of the Basmati sold in US stores are commercial hybrid variety and a far cry from the real stuff, out of those, I recommend Lal Qila brand available at Indian grocers, among hybrids, its the best. Basmati is my favorite followed by Thai or Philippines Millagrosso brand Jasmine rice and then of course Kokohu Rose from Japan.

Kuan,

Thanks for the correction, Kokohu Rice is product of Koda Farms in CA, but its primarily Japanese rice based for Japanse cooking if I am not mistaken, I was introduced to it by a person of Japanse origin who used to be a sushi chef of repute.

When I lived in Arkansas (where a lot of rice is grown) I used to see people eat cooked rice with milk and sugar on it. I never tried it, but I can't imagine that I would have liked it.
