Windows 98 clock

The clock on my 'puter runs slow.

Runs on an internal battery? How to fix?

Thanks.

If you set the clock and it doesnt keep time then the small quarter shaped flat watch-type looking battery on your motherboard is depleted. this battery is very easily replaced, simply unscrew your case side panel screw(s) and pop the side panel off, then pop out the battery I have just described. A new one can be found out of a different motherboard, or Radio Shack or equivelent should carry one.

Your computer must be of age, I have never seen one go bad.. of couse, Ive only been in computers all my life, and im only 15...

The slowing clock is the computers way of telling you to change the battery.

I will take sady's advise and fix this week.

Yes, my computer is old (in computer years). Bought it in '98- its a Gateway. Been through 3 monitors, 2 keyboards, added a CD rom drive, a second harddrive, RAM, CD burner ETC. Trying to see how long it will last, like my cars.

Thanks for your advise.

Mike

to maintain a gateway is like buying an old korean car and seeing if it will run for more than 3 years and 60 000 miles. Once warranty expires at 3 years and 1 day or 60 001 miles, you are better off sending it to the crusher.

Yes that little battery is the way to fix it, make sure to turn the computer off before you unplug random things...lol

Hmm...always thought the gateway was a decent machine.

Do you have any pictures of that 450 Ptoro? How do you like it? Looking for one myself, after I sell the SE.
