Been watching that auction. Seems like every other car is a Vette or a hemi something!!

and here's another 1967 Corvette Convertable with a 427......

I've been doing the fantasy bid thing on speedtv's website. I hit the 69 vette on the money but I guess I wasn't fast enough because 5 other people were shown as hitting it too.

Missed the GT500 by a thousand. Was about a hundred grand high on the superbird. I really thought those would draw all the money.

What was that whacked 69 Vette all about? The "GT"? Had the G and T from a GTO for the emblem, and ugly paint, body kit and exposed headlights? And some KID was bidding on it, and what'd they get for it, like $100,000 +??
Front end was supposed to look like a Maserati, ended up looking more like a 240Z.

I was wondering the same thing. I don't remember a Corvette "GT". I think some of that was 'for show'. And on top of that, what's that "phone and internet" bidding all about? How does that bidder on the floor know for sure that there is even someone on the other end of that phone bidding against him???

That one surprised me too.....A gorgeous one-of-a-kind car, by such a popular builder, AND it was on national TV....I'm really surprised there was so little interest in it.

I'm about sick of muscle cars. They where slapped together pieces of crap. So many beautiful unappreciated cars going for 40-60k while these rattle traps go for 200-300k.

Have you ever driven one? Find a stretch of straight road and put your foot to the floorboard in one of those "rattle traps", and you'll understand the hype.

I grew up with those cars and built some with engines that would put those factory numbers to shame. And my cars were able to hook up. There are family sedans out now that will eat those cars and you don't have to look any further than Mercedes. Dodge will have a sedan out soon that will humble a hemi cuda, and it will have air, brakes, stereo, cupholders, etc.

My point was that there where many beautiful cars that got no attention while everyone focused on these overpriced, overhyped models. In any case if I really wanted a kick in the pants I'd take a Hayabusa.

I agree that the prices on many of them are pretty outrageous.

I also am aware that there are plenty of new cars that can outperform the old "muscle cars", on paper at least.

But I'm not talking about just the "numbers". I'm talking about that "seat of your pants" feeling......I'm talking about having FUN owning and driving a powerful, gorgeous piece of American automotive history, and one that you can actually work on yourself, at home......Driving a fast MACHINE, not a fast COMPUTER....many new cars today are more computer than anything.

To a lot of folks, no new car can ever duplicate this experience, and they pay what they must for the old car that they want. More power to 'em. I'd pay it too, if I had it.

Wish I would have purchased a few hemi's when they were new. With high insurance rates and gasoline, they were not that popular with the young kids. Hindsight is 20/20.

I'll bet that there are future collectables sitting in dealer showrooms today. Which ones are they?
