Anyone wanna take bets on when GM will file chapter 11?

Go do your own research. I think around October or November this year.

Wow one vote in each category so far.... Looks like a 1/3 1/3 1/3 election here!! (I am not counting the option with no votes, I don't think anyone will choose that one)

GM's GNP is still greater than about 40 other nations...don't expect Chapter 11 to be indicative of a final demise of the auto mega-giant!

Hmm now that is interesting, Toyota with huge cash reserves making tons of money selling cars merging with GM. Now what would Toyota gain? They could probably make them turn a profit. So then only Ford will be left...

GM needs to break that autoworkers union.

Yep, just like the airline industry too
I say late 2006 maybe even 2007. If American Airlines can survive this long i'm betting GM will.

Toyota doesn't need to Merge with GM . . . GM right now is spinning around in the toilet bowl and it's just a matter of time till they are swallowed up by the drain.

It's all just a matter of time till Toyota is #1

P.S. What if . . . and I know this sounds CRAZY . . . but, what if GM merged with Ford ? . . . in order to become an American Super Giant

Bankruptcy is just a business move these days. When it is the most profitable move they will make it.

Ok I have to ask why the reference to American Airlines. We are not in Chapter 11. We have increased our non obligated cash reserves to 2.8 billion. and the loss, though large is a big reduction to the previous 2 years.
So what are you thinking?

Delta reported a 2.2 billion 4th quarter loss.
US Air is losing lots, despite its Chapter 11 protection.
United. 2 years in Chapter 11 and no end in site.
Even Southwest would have shown a loss if not for its fuel hedging.

Jetblue the darling of wall street only showed a 1 million 4th quarter profit and had the balls to say that one of the causes of the poor 4th quarter performance was the "pricing environment". They are the ones who establish the current pricing environment and their complaining, in essence, about what they have caused.

So though all of this American Airlines is improving our cash position and lowering our operating costs but you only target American?????????????

Oh yea, By the way, I'm an American Airlines Captain.

Dave

PS Or are you talking about the American airline industry as a whole???

Autoworkers unions are KILLING the American automakers.

The quality and consistency of their work continues to decline, while the salaries and benefits they demand continue to rise.

I read a thingy that Toyota is already #1, they make more cars IN the US than GM. Anywho the reason I base my speculation on the toyota gm merger is that it's already a loose partnership. They share plant technologies, warehousing and some car tech and are working the the hybid suv together.

Even though Toyota is the most profitable automaker in the world they wouldn't mind gobbling up those new high tech GM plants which house it's best workforce, and that huge GM brand loyalty.

Toyota would inherit the union relationship currently enjoyed by GM.
