Opinion on Labor cost - Front Suspension 1986 560SL
I need your opinion on Labor cost on my 1986 560SL.
I'm been charged $1900.00 in labor for a complete Front suspension update Upper Control harms (expensives!) Shocks Engine Mounts Sub-frame mounts Steering damper Ball joints Tied Rod Drag Links All bushing kits and 2 Flex Disc in the rear The total bill around $2800 with parts. What do you thinks? I'm in Miami, FL Thanks Jorge |

looks like everything was replaced... seems that you are good for another 20 years or so. Sorry can't help with cost knowledge, but I do know rebuilding front suspension at an indy shop or even worse, at a dealership, is VERY expensive if you don't do it by yourself.
forgot to mention.. if you want to know what kind of range you are in, compare the cost you were charged for parts to the price offered here at fastlane(click on button up at the very top). |

Eweee
They put brand new upper control arms on, what, are they lazy? I will be replacing many front end parts on my 450SL soon. The upper control arms have riveted on, upper ball joints, not unusual, and I plan to cut them off to install new upper ball joints. I'm just wondering, was the only reason for replacing the upper control arms was because new they come with riveted on ball joints? Because yes, I knoticed while pricing that lower control arms were $500 + dollars each, uppers weren't far behind. My opinion, my thought, was what a rip! All parts you mentioned I have priced, and with exception to both upper, and lower control arms, price for parts was under $300 I think, I'll check that, but it wasn't outragious. Boy, I'm glad I have the time to do my own work! |

Thanks all for the answers.
The Parts (All New) came from the PO when the car was given to me (Was a Christmas present from my girlfriend ) Except for the Upper Control arms; the repair shop recomended to have them replace and end with a "New" FS. The car is absolute mint, the interior is inmaculate and i have a full service history on the car - but with 112K miles the front was loose and bumpy. I have a buget of 5K to take care of any detail - well $2200. $2800 are gone already! next Rear shocks and 4 new tires. Thanks Jorge |
