I took off the trans pan and it looked very clean, I mean almost new looking. That could prove to be bad if I'm hope that it won't change gears because of a clogged filter, right?

i think hes saying that since his valve body and everything contained by the trans pan is clean, that his filter must not be clogged like he suspected....
i dont think this is the case, Ironhead....the only way the valve body and internals would get dirty is if it got in by way of the transmission pan....id say changing the filter would be a good, and cheap start to figuring out what might be troubling your car.... btw, what exactly is wrong with the car?
