Photo radar

I did a quick search on this topic, which I am sure has been posted before.

I got a photo-radar ticket the other day for doing 30, NOT 30 OVER, in a school zone which was not very well marked. So my thoughts are;

Is photo radar just a tool that allows chicken$hits to give tickets for violations that no flesh and blood cop would ever pull you over for? There is no way any real live police officer would pull someone over for doing 10 over unless they were using it as probable cause. I should be commended for slowing down to 30 for god sakes.

Has a legal precedent been set for fighting these things? Not that it would be worth it to do so, just wondering for next time.

Paul X.

I have only had one ticket I have recieved NOT be reduced in severity or thrown out in the years I have been driving......

Or just don't speed!

Don't commit the crime if you can't pay the fine. Maturity plays a role here as well.

Did they get your mug shot too? If they did, you should have fixed your benz like I did mine. I took off the front plate and fixed the holes up at a body shop. Without that, it would be much harder to get your mug shot. For the future, anyways.

My consciensciously-driving wife only got one ticket in her entire life...at a school zone.

Everywhere I've lived, cops treated school zones seriously. And because of that, so have I.

Means a lot more having a school age child than when I was single.

I agree that some school zones arent very well marked. In fact, some neighborhoods have a school nestled deep inside, so any motorist wandering through becomes an easy target...

At least with photo radar you don't have to be pulled over.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. A Florida police officer is being punished for handcuffing and ticketing a doctor who was speeding to deliver a baby.
Doctor Anthony Chidiac was driving his motorcycle ten miles over the speed limit last March when he was pulled over in Fort Lauderdale.

According to police records, when the doctor said he was on his way to a delivery, the officer replied, "What are you delivering, pizza?"

The doctor delivered the baby 15 minutes after he got out of the handcuffs and was ticketed.

The officer has agreed to a 16-day unpaid suspension rather than being fired. A citizen board will review the case April eleventh.

Fight it! Fight every single ticket you get.

We had photo radar here in Ontario but it was later scrapped when public outrage finally got to even our politicians' dulled sensibility.

To me most speeding tickets are simply supplemental taxation, plain and simple. It has nothing to do with safety - unless the vehicle is actually driving dangerously - which to me is different than 'speeding'.

We now have red-light cameras at major city intersections. You burn the red light and you get photo-ticketed. I have no problem with this, I think it's a good measure.

I've seen a number of folks pulled over in school zones. In one area I pass by frequently there are 2 patrol vehicles standing by any time kids are outside.

You were exceeding the speed limit by a whopping 50% after all….

That said I was recently pulled over for going 10 over in a 45 mph zone. I got away without a ticket on that one but did get cited about a year ago for going 60 in a 50 zone. Neither used photo radar

Photo radar is all about *easy* money…..

THey short cycle the lights to get you there.....the yellow is too short to clear the intersection when you are too close to it to slam on your brakes and stop....... I beet one that way...flipped yellow when I hit the crosswalk going 25 and was red before I got halfway through the intersection.....obviously programmed to entrap people....and what proof is there of accuracy of the photo Radar....or the fact it could have been triggered bu another vehicle....which is real easy to happen due to the broad radar beam......

Front licence plate removal. Just do it. I have got warned for it but I figure 3 warnings in 15 years is better than 1 photo radar ticket.

Or buy those polarized license plate covers that essentially block the image of your plate to the camera.

I don't think those work...the extortionists use image enhancement to bring out the numbers.....

My understanding is that they make it such that at a certain angle, it is black and if you look dead on, it is clear.

Just take the plate out. If anyone says anything, act like the proverbial dumb blond. I used to have a plate on my firebird that had the wife and my name on it. Pulled over onetime and acted dumb. Clained the salesman at the autoshow told me it was ok. Cop showed me the statute and gave me a "fixit" ticket. Fixed it for the cop, went to the pigpen and showed them the thing, got it signed off and life was good. After that, the custom plate came back on. One time in the last 15 years is fine. Been told to fix it other times (twice, maybe) and left it that way. None of my vehicles have a front plate except the truck which has a hole in the bumper so I cover that with a licence plate that has a pic of the flag on it.
