Could anyone be so transparent?

I receieved this email from a good friend of mine. I changed all the names except for mine.

"Stefano

I just got this email from a sorority sister from college this morning.
Just forwarding for your "amusement" in that I cannot believe how
self-centered a girl could possibly get. Her mindset is so far gone that I
cannot even imagine how to possibly relate to her. My jaw was literally on
the ground when I read this." --Wendy

"Wendy,

I've been trying tell you that I don't want to discuss the religious thing
anymore. It's a waste of time. I've stated this in several e-mails. I'm glad
you're on the same page. Now, let's chat about what's going on in my life
(the real world). I could talk about beauty for hours on end. I hope you can
too.

If you would hang out with me and Nancy, I think that you would understand
how focused we are on ourselves, looking good and dressing in designer
clothes. I keep admiring my Tiffany engagement ring. I'm totally focused on
my self improvement, my love life and looking good for him. Just because I
have found the love of my life, I have not let myself go. It's important to
keep looking good as it makes you feel good as well and reflects positively
on others as well. I've gotten ahead in the business world, because of my
stylish career minded image.

In fact, right now, I look like Sarah Jessica Parker. I have that honey
blond hair, I'm a size 4 and I wear very strappy sandals and very feminine
clothes, like Ann Taylor. I recently bought a pair of Manolo Blanicks and
don't regret the splurge, as well made shoes are worth every penny and don't
mess up your feet. I could never put a pair of Payless Shoes on my feet.

Also, a few months ago, I bought a few pairs of $150 jeans called Citizens
Of Humanity and Seven. Have you heard of them? They're very differently made then the cheaply made crap.

I'm busy getting facials and plumping up my face with these fabulous creams.
Everyone tells me that I don't look a day over 25! This makes me want to
continue to my time consuming beauty treatments. I'm at the hair salon
getting my color every 6 weeks. I spend so much time doing my nightly face
plumping regimen.

As you can see, I really have changed and look the best ever. Todge is so
wonderfully happy and tells me that I'm so beautiful and in the best shape.

I wish that you would want to hang out with us, so we can share all of these
great finds with you. We have developed an incredible resource of fashion
knowledge.

If you want to chat about these topics, I'd love to. I'll also discuss
travel. I'm headed to France and Italy next year. There's even a possibility
of Todge and me moving to Miami.

Judy

P. S. Beth and I participate in and have formed a girls club. In these
sessions, we meet with power hungry career women like ourselves and discuss
new beauty creams, hair treatments, the latest fashions, how to please our
men, and consumer rights. We'd love for you to come. Twice a month we meet
at one of the hippest places in town. For example, we went to the POD last
week. It's so great that other women in our circle feel the same way we do
and are aiming to earn six figures a year. Nancy and I are on track to meet
this goal. Even though she has kids, she is such a ball of energy and
doesn't miss any opportunities.

Talk to you soon."

!

She reminds me of the scene from Terms of Endearment when the main character meets up with old college friends for lunch in New York-- only to learn that they no longer have a thing in common. She's a wife and mother, while they're only interested in careers, making money, and fashion. What a waste; there's so much more to life!

well some people mature faster than others.......that group takes a little longer. Eventually most will come to realise their self absorbed behaviour keeps the best people away from them.....

ANd then there are soem that never get over their own self importance.....those people tend to be their own best friend.

Ithink that's the group we see here. My friend "Wendy" and the others are in their mid-thirties.

Here's "Wendy's" response to my reply to her email.

"Actually, that IS how she is. It wasn't intentional. It's been building up
for years. She followed it up with a "let's meet at the mall, I really want
to see Jeff [Wendy's son]. I feel like I don't know you anymore..."

I haven't responded.

If you ever watch Sex and the City - she's the personification of Carrie at
this point. Selfish, narcissistic and self-absorbed. She's not the type of
person I want to be around or become associated with.

My motto is "live simply so that others may simply live..." Cannot morally
justify her lifestyle when there are those who fight just to exist and for
their basic needs..."

So true......I tend to avoid that type also.......And only deal with them when I must. THey aren't open to critisism and yet they tend to be so free in offering it.

My wife has those self absorbed moments like many women do. But for the most part she is a real down to earth person....which is one of the things that attracted me to her.

I gotta admit, I've never run across such a person.

Might be a fun date though, you never know.

ive seen this same thing happen to a few girls i know....they come from not having much money growing up, then meet someone who spoils the crap out of them....after a while, any character or virtue they ever had is totally out the window and they forget where they came from....they have the mindset that if it isnt the most expensive model of whatever they want, it isnt even worth them looking at....something from wal-mart might actually induce vomiting in severe cases...
