Oskar, our dachshund the day we first had him (October), on top of my Benz. We've since gotten a female as well...clever lil bastards...almost too smart for their own good.

He gets a daily salt water bath and romp time in the woods with his pals. People always comment on his coat and ask me how often I bath and brush him. When I tell them they are shocked. He has not had a real bath, soap and water, in over a year and a half and I never brush him. Salt water is mother natures antiseptic, keeps fleas tics away, and he always smells clean. With all that swimming he does I have to be on the watch for ear issues. I check and clean his ears weekly.

Now I gotta ask. How much time is required on Collie coats?

Thank you. I am quite proud of them, and my little world revolves primarily around their well being.

They (rather noisily unfortunately) keep my place safe while I'm gone, and sure don't give me any cause to worry when I'm asleep at night, as they curl up on "their side" of the bed. They are as gentle as a dog can come, yet I have no doubts that anybody with ill intent would quickly regret mis judging these two. I've seen them in full guardian mode, and they are VERY frightening to watch. Great Pyrenees do not require protection training, it's naturally in their instinct.

I remember severely overexerting myself out in the yard last summer, where I felt literally sick and lightheaded when I finished mowing the lawn. Both immediately came to my side, one on each side of me, and would not leave thier spots untill I sat down. Then they both stayed close while I regrouped from pushing too hard in high heat to finish a job that didn't need to be done right then, but didn't want to go back to later. Once I had cooled down, only then would they let me up.

Another time, I nearly fell in one of the craters that they dug in the yard. After that acrobatic display, Snow (the girl decided) that she had to "block" me from going in that direction later on, untill I was "safely" past the hole. They have zero training on assistance work.

I did not get them for these duties. I just like big ol dogs that I don't feel like I'm going to hurt it if we get to playing a bit rough. These dogs like to do jobs, and they simply thought up their "chores" all by themselves.

I spend perhaps 30-45 minutes a week brushing my collie. That's enough to keep him looking quite respectable and free of matts/tangles, though by no means ready to show. He gets a bath perhaps three times a year, but he's an indoor dog.
