Help with information on ART

Hi All
My Aunt passed and after cleaning out the house, came across two nice oil paintings. The documentation, my aunt wrote everything down. She purschased in Germany 1930 for $80.00 My question any good web sites to try and research the artist? I guess the library would work.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
