1992 Toyota Camry power windows won't work

Hi all-
I've checked all fuses in the fuse box, I've opened up the panels on all 4 doors to check that the wiring harness is plugged to each power window switch.
The power locks work fine. All else in the car works fine.

Does anyone here know of any particular relay box or some such that might have failed as well as its location and how to identify it?

Nothing unusual happened to the car. It was turned off as usual in a driveway and the windows were working fine this afternoon. The next time we got in, no windows.
I checked the Power window lock and it's not locked. I toggled it up and down as well in the case that ther might have been an issue with that.

I did remove the plastic panel around the fuses. Behind the panel, to the right of the fuses is a brown relay box, but I don't know what it controls.
Any ideas?

The Cure

Hey LaughingGravy,

So you are at the end of the rope with this Camry. huh? I know exactly what you mean....so allow me to tell you what's up without any further grief....remove the door panel window switch controller from the door panel....you should be able to locate many wires that are battery voltage, (with key turned on).....so you got voltage, big deal, right? OK....so now the kicker, check for ground on the black striped wires, and you will probably not be able to locate any ground...that's the issue, no ground in the wiring harness circuit. Simply run a seperate ground wire from the interior of the car, through the rubber harness in the door, and run the wire to all grounds, simply tie into them as you like, and this should cure your issue. As long as your seat belt retracts and operates properly when opening the doors (front) you should be able to fix the issue with the new ground supply.

Let me know if I can help you with it, and how it turns out.

Take care, happy wiring.

That ground idea sounds reasonable

87 300E,
Many Thanks! Is this particular to the 92' Camry or which others?

The link to the other forum above was somewhat helpful, but like most other auto forums, it spent more space discussing headlight, ground effect panel, and stereo modifications than real substance. That's why this place rocks.

In the meantime, the windows started working again after I jiggled the driver's side wiring harness from the inside. I know it's not fixed, yet.
But for the moment, I'm OK. I kind of like living on the edge, sometimes

Once I try the ground wire fix the next time they don't work, I'll be sure to post back.
