My best was 1180. Most of them were in the 200 foot range. The optimal angle is 45 degrees. Hit the space bar when the power meter reaches about half way so that it will register at max launch when the power meter is maxed out. Maybe my reaction time is bad but it seemed like it took a while after I pressed for it register.

Heh. Good job. Did you try to submit your score? Mine wouldn't go through. I imagine that it was trying to load several million scores and choked.

Of course but as economists like to say, "all else being equal." There could (probably is) be an optimal set of explosions (input of kinetic energy) that would overcome the optimal launch angle. The reason for 45 degrees is that in 2D velocity, position, etc. are vectors. So distance in the x direction is the result of an interplay between kinetic energy and the acceleration of gravity (that is expended in both the x and y directions) so by maximizing x it turns out that you have to balance the fact that the cat is heading towards the earth (gravity) with the fact that past a certain angle you will go farther up (y direction) at the expense of going less far in the x direction (distribution of kinetic energy between the two directions). I assume that there are more clever ways of showing it but by setting the differential of the position (or velocity) function in terms of the x component equal to 0 and then solving for x you will find the maximum x distance that can be achieved. Off the top of my head and I would be embarrased if that where wrong but I think that's the technique would work or at least going in that general direction would. I think that when one considers the effects of wind that it is about 23 degrees.

Remember what Patton said (or rather George C. Scott said) at the end of the movie about the Mighty Conqueror arriving back in his kingdom, accepting accolades, etc., and how he had a young servant boy whispering in his ear:

"All glory is fleeting..."

MANITOWOC, Wis. --
The group that raised the issue decided Friday to let the issue fade away, about a month after Gov. Jim Doyle said the plan was making the state a laughingstock.

The proposed law change would classify wild, free-roaming cats as an unprotected species.

That change would allow licensed hunters to shoot feral cats, which are considered an invasive species that kills songbirds and other wildlife.

The Congress decided not to recommend the change to the Natural Resources Board later this month -- even though 57 percent of those at the group's spring meetings last month favored it.

Animal rights groups said the idea is inhumane and dangerous.

Supporters said it would let people deal with nuisance stray cats.

Shoot
Shovel
Shut up

Cat people are by far the most fanatical pet people around. Our baby is allergic to cats so we had to find our kitty a new home, so while in the vet waiting room to get her shots so she will be a more marketable cat for the placement group. The cat fanciers in the waiting room were suggesting that we give the baby lots of antihistamines and even steroids so prevent trauma to the cat from the rigorous stress of a new home.

My wife is pretty quiet about most issues unless they involve harm to her children, and her reply was "if you love cats so much why do you take her?"

No takers
