It's ok to 'drop out' of the race for a while... I think there comes a point when the whole opposite-sex thing really just isn't worth the trouble anymore

You are one hundred percent on the mark! I dated my now ex-husband (known as "the singer") for six years but according to him......."til death do us part or ten months............whichever comes first" was the game he played. Left me absolutely blindsided and devastated. I was always the one who paid for EVERYTHING but didn't mind it because I'm not a money-hungry *****. I've always paid my own way and have dated because I enjoyed being with the person. Found out that during our marriage, he was saving all of his money and he left out the door with forty grand cash and I was broke. No big deal....I'll always make more. But I decided to look at MY PART of the demise of the relationship. It takes two no matter what the situation. I enabled all of his devious behavior. I thought I should take a look at myself and the choices that I had made along the way to get myself to the position that I was now in. I bought a house and spent the next year working, then coming home and doing my own restoration of SAID HOUSE. I didn't know a damn thing about anything when I started. If I wasn't listening to some stupid (yet helpful) Dr. Phil tape, my nose was buried in a Home Improvement book. I went from crying at the front door not knowing how to change the freakin' door locks to my favorite question to this day............."An automatic Garage door opener? HOW HARD COULD IT BE?" One year later, I lost my job and as fate would have it, my house was completely done and I was completely healed and a new person, ready to move out of that house anyway. That was July of 2002. I've dated on and off since then, but I am so happy with my new found project, 74 280, that if someone is going to take my time away from riding my horse, hanging with my dog and working on my piece of crap car, they'd better be special or I'm just not that into it. I know who I am because I took that year off to find out. Now, I will never be in another unrewarding relationship. Life is too short! Go do something that she never would've approved of you doing, but you've always wanted to do it. And do not, I repeat, do NOT sleep with your counselor. That will not help you get over anything. Do rebound sex elsewhere.

Laca5551212,
That is some genuine wisdom and it amazes me that you let him do what he did for as long as that, but humans are always hopeful and we want to remain happy, even at some lesser level. You sound just fine now and I thank you for the gift of your hard-learned lessons. Things are actually coming back into place for me. I've started to meditate again (stopped early in our relationship for being ridiculed for doing it) and seeking my spirituality again. I've found the perfect two-bay mechanics shop for rent in a great little town just on the outskirts of my customer base. Now I need to find a place to live and am torn between living by myself or with another (I do enjoy closeness -not just sex- with a female.) Once we both decided that this needed to end, something must have switched on like a beacon. Now women are just drawn to me. Young, mature, they just smile and some come talk to me, a few have asked ME out!????!! Before when I would sit at the coffee house, I'd sit alone. Now women ask if they can sit at my table when there are plenty of open tables? Darn, if I could figure out what it is that does this, I could bottle it and sell for MILLIONS!!! Then I COULD afford to have enough space for all my MBs! Anyway, the Universe is blessing me right now and I'm not going to complain. Just enjoy. Sounds like you're OK too so that's wonderful. BTW, are you sure I can't sleep with my counselor? Please??? ;-)

TomJ,
Or better yet, get a FREAKIN' MALE COUNSELOR and date the other one. I put up with more crap than I would ever admit to myself until today. You mentioned that she ridiculed you about meditation. Good. I hope you meditate on a daily basis since it's something you enjoy and a peaceful way to recharge yourself everyday. When you're in a bad relationship, or you're "not allowed" to be who you really are, people pick up on it and don't want anything to do with you. Once you're unafraid to let your light shine, the moths will come in droves. You sound like you're going to have a lot more peace in your life. I have found that the rollercoaster ride is not the way to happiness. Happiness may not be the way to happiness. Peacefulness is the ultimate achievement. If I can just be peaceful without all the drama of some toxic person invading my space, then I consider myself happy. I love that you're going to have a small shop and I'm going to stick my nose where it doesn't belong and suggest that you NOT bring anyone else into your home for a while. If you live by yourself, you will rediscover a plethora of wonderful things about yourself that you have forgotten or else never gave a nod to. You must recover 100 percent of yourself in order to be able to stay 100 percent with someone else. You may feel afraid to live alone because it's lonely. Trust me, I was there. Even now, sometimes I would rather sleep on the couch than get into bed alone, but I have seriously entertained the thought of getting married but living seperately. FAMILIARITY BREEDS CONTEMPT. They can always stay the night and then get the F&*( out of there in the morning so you can go meditate. Go out and get a little rescue puppy. There are many of them that need you and he can come to the shop everyday with you and he'll never take you for granted! You said you'd let him in before the girlfriend so DO IT.

What you said above is so true. Just most people are too damn PC to actually tell me (I may know it intellectually, but need to face the reality of it.) Quote:
For most, that would be excellent advice though. Thanks for having to guts to put it down. Hope you the same blissful peace I seek and will find. PM me once in a while and LMK how goes the battle.

I'm living your life Tom
[
I can't. I've had a few dogs in my life, the last one was my best buddy for 13years. He was smarter than most people I know. 1/2 timber wolf and 1/2 aussie shep. We were never apart until the day I had to give him his peace from cancer. Tore me apart. I miss him more than any human I've had leave. Too chickens**t to face that kind of pain again and I'm still feeling that one. For most, that would be excellent advice though. When I was 17, I got my "first" dog that was truly my own. He was a collie puppy and I was in love with Steve Perry, so I named him Journey. Journey was never away from my side until I had to put him to sleep as my final act of kindness to my old faithful friend who was riddled with cancer. I thought I'd never get over it and ran into his former groomer a few weeks later. She told me about a farm with shelties and that there was one the owners treated poorly since he was born without most of his tail and wasn't sellable or showable. I went over to the house in the pitch black night pouring rain and freezing....in the back yard was a mass of dog that I didn't even see because it was so dark. I picked him up, put him in a towel and ran out before they could change their mind. This little dog needed me as much as I needed him. I named him Traveller and he was black and white and scared of everything. It took two years for him to come around but he was so happy and so healthy. I moved to California in 94 and one night, I left to go out around ten o'clock and when I came back, he was at deaths door. I took him to the vet and there was nothing they could do but just watch and wait. He died of pancreatitis a week and five thousand dollars later. Two dogs in two years was more than I could bear. I took some time away from the dog scene. Before I married the *******, in the summer of 99, I was making a ton of money and decided to rent a house by where I keep my horse. I was going to have a backyard. One night at three am I'm surfing the net and against my better judgment, I did a search for one word .........................."sheltie" Up came "The Louisiana Collie and Sheltie Rescue". I clicked on the link and was brought to the page of the Quints. 5 brothers all severly abused and recently rescued. I scrolled down the page....Charlie.....Bailley, ...Even....Stan..................................................................................... .................................................................................................... ..............................the next words to appear were...............And then there's Dennis. He's the saddest one of all. A little tiny black and white sheltie in a crate with a can of Coke beside him for perspective on how small he is. I burst into tears and set about doing the paperwork to adopt him. I met with the California Collie association who had to see my house and my employment history and my bank account and then I was good to go to adopt him. But the next day, I reunited with my boyfriend and we decided to get married. I told him if he didn't want me to get Dennis, that would be ok. (That shows how unhealthy I was at the time.) Fortunately, he said no....go ahead and get him. We flew to New Orleans and picked up Dennis. When my marriage broke up ten months later, this little dog gave me a reason to get out of bed. This little dog SAVED MY LIFE. The greatest gift my husband gave me was the word YES. I don't know what I'll do when this dog dies. He is my very best friend in the world, and it's God's only mistake that they live such short lives but I understand it. No one will love Dennis like I have and he won't love anyone else as much as me. He has to die before I do because what will happen to him? He reminds me so much of Traveller and he does so many things like Journey and the least I can do is help another dog someday help me through this thing called life. Think about it kid.

Been there, done that. I think you're on the right track now, even if it's that "I hate all women" period of time. But that's just it. Allow for TIME. It really does heal all wounds. Take it easy for a while and don't even consider getting into any kind or relationship for a while. You don't need it that soon afterward and it's not fair to anyone on the receiving end. Good luck!

You can understand where he went, he can never understand if you go before him. Doesn't make it any easier but I have found that there is a word that I never gave much thought to a few years ago. It seems like an easy word, but it's one of the most difficult ever known. Acceptance. Acceptance doesn't mean that it's ok. It just means that now I don't have to fight it anymore and can finally move on. By the way, I am 100 percent sure that I will see all of my dogs again one day. God could not put someone on this earth for me to love so much without planning to have him waiting for me in my eternal happiness.

You mind if I ask how old you are? I'm still waiting to get to this phase. I'm learning that fishing for fluke is better than fishing for women. At least you *know* there are some good fluke out there... hehe. Eh, what can I say, I'm having a hell of time meeting women that aren't what they seem to be. Sort of sucks because I wear my heart on my sleeve when in relationships. This is a bad thing. |
