removing silicone from paint???

Ok, so i had leaking rear tail lights, put a ton of marine grade silicone around them(thinking there was no way in hell that they woulds till leak). Long story short they still leak so i jsut went ahead and bought a new gasket. Now the real fun begins though, it is seemingly next to impossible to remove this marine grade silicone from my paint, does anyone have any tips? I need to get all of it off as well or else i'm afraid the gasket will not sit properly. thanks in advance,
Ryan

use a sharp blade to cut it as close to the paint as you can, and then get a "eraser" from the tool store, they are use for removing decals, eastwood sells them but they cost an arm and a leg from them. i have one from them that was like 99 bucks and one from my local tool store that was like 6 bucks.....cant tell the diff. sometimes called pinstriping eraser too

You need a paint-safe solvent to remove it. Go to a hardware store and ask for paint-safe solvent.

This may sound like a redneck, duct tape, beer tastes way of doing it, but have you tried spraying the area with a lot of WD-40 as a remover?
