I suppose it's all relative-- but it doesn't really matter.

If you look at a full tank as needing $0 cost to fill up, the gauge is backwards.

If you look at a full tank as having cost $90 to fill up, the gauge is accurate.

But I see your point: the gauge is there to inform you what you need to do at a the present point in time, not what you did in the past, so your way of looking at it would be more accurate.

Maybe it's one of those funky european gauges?
