You know, I did the exact opposite. I NEVER turn my car off, right? Well today, I figured I'd give it a try, see how this turnin' the car off thing feels. There was a long line at this gas station because RUG was $2.16, and I had to wait 15 minutes just to get a pump. I shut off the engine, filled up, then got back in the car. Get this - THE CAR WOULDN'T START! I had to click the solenoid almost 50 times, sweating for what seemed like an eternity and feeling the impatient stares of the guys in the 3 cars waiting in line to use my pump. Oh... and their cars were runnin'...

Go figure.

Every time I fill up with the engine running the owner of the gas station throws his turban at me, tears open his shirt to reveal 10kilograms of TNT, and then blows himself up along with myself and my car.

But again, what does this have to do with running/not running? That vehicle in the video could have been running... or maybe not.
I am as curious as you are re: running vs. not running. I just posted that video as it seemed ironic that I saw it just as this debate got underway. Actually, I leave my TDI running while I fuel up since the station where I buy BioDiesel is right off the interstate (turbo needs time to cool before a shutdown). But I'll reconsider this practice as soon as someone posts evidence that running poses more risk than not running!

i think if it was a problem with diesel every semi would shut off at the pump.. and NONE do.

I bet the shutting off while refueling is a scam from the anti-idling crowd to get everyone to shut off and reduce pollution. First they make us shut off while refueling, then they make it illegal to leave your car runnning while you run into the convenience store to grab a cup of coffee.
