I liked disco back in its day...and my flared pants, platforms, etc., etc....but that was then.

No desire to bring back ANYTHING from that era!

I did however, get nostalgic for some of the stereo components that existed during my youthful days in college, and I recently picked up a few items on eBay...including a turntable that was a fav of mine.

So now, I'm pulling out old LPs and enjoying them again. Listening to "The Police, Zenyatta Mondatta" as I write...

Cool

Coming from Brooklyn I feel qualified to rate Disco ...Tasteless!

They were once building a Disco in my neighborhood and just before it was gonna open, it was burned down....huh huh ...

If it wasn't for Qualuudes, Disco never would have made it past 1 year.....
honestly.

I think I still have my D.R.E.A.D. (Detroit Rockers Engaged in the Abolition of Disco) card around somewhere...

That said, some of the music was quite good.

Thumbs up Huh --

If you did a check on all the people who find it fashionable to sneer at disco music, you'd find that most of 'em were out there on the dance floors in the '70s like the rest of us.

Sure, a lot of disco was poor. Sturgeon's Law: "Ninety percent of everything is crud." But at its best --

(Bee Gees and "Stayin' Alive," Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff" and "Bad Girls" and "She Works Hard for the Money", George McCrae's "Rock Your Baby," Sister Sledge's "Greatest Dancer")

-- it was exciting, fast-moving music. Great stuff to drive to. And I think 1979 was the last truly great year for pop music.

I love country, though. Where else today can you find performers who are good-looking (see Faith Hill!), who dress up to look their *best* on stage, who sing songs that are about the lives of real people -- some of the best songwriting ever -- and where you can understand *every single word they sing*, without resorting to the lyric sheet?

I still sneer at disco. When disco was popular I was listening to ZZTop, and Ted Nugent. I was also on my Harley mooning Disco Ducks that were wearing reflecto pants.

my $0.02. XM Chrome - 83 is the station number. I loved it then, and still really enjoy it now. My co-workers on the other hand want to kill me within about 10 minutes of listening to it! That's why I get in so early....so I'm all alone

I did not see "Saturday Night Fever" until the early 1990's, and then I still got sh__ from my friends about seeing this movie. I think that it's a very good movie. I'm certain that I could pick out 10 of my best friends from high school and none would have seen it to this day.

But I definitely think that there was a lot of disco music that had artistic merit - especially in light of the garbage available now. But even in these dark days, there are still 1 or 2 songs a year that stand out, "So Says I" by the Shins being especially noteworthy.

I haven't listened to FM radio in about 10 years. My wife and I were cracking up about the following: we were in the middle of a tornado warning, and a twister had already touched down. This was serious. The lightning was so furious that AM reception was impossible. But the FM stations were playing the same garbage as usual, like nothing was going on. I swear, fragments of Venus could be pelting the earth shortly after the sun went nova, and ClearChannel radio would still be playing Maria Carey till the end.

I deeply regret not investing in XM radio. My wife put it in her car and has not listed to FM ever again. I thought that it was a stupid idea, no one would actually pay for it, until I realized just how bad commercial radio has become.

I took my girl friend to see Saturday Night Fever. The only good thing about the movie was when I leaned over, laid my head on her ample left breast, and fell asleep.
