Its too bad that the race hustlers who are at the front of the race industry today have deviated so far from Dr. King's dream. It is no longer sufficient that a man is judged by the content of his character rather than the color of his skin.

I've seen some stories about places that wanted to create a memorial to Dr. King.

His family sics lawyers on anyone who has such an idea
and demands $10,000+, for the privelege.

I think this holiday is one of the more underappreciated holidays.

What the man accomplished was monumental and his "day" should be right up there with other major holidays.

Sure they have a parade on MLK blvd in most big cities, but is televised? if only for a little bit? Nope.

In Miami, they have this festival named calle ocho every year, a huge block party if you will, that gets more attention and gets televised on local news stations.

Most people see it as a day off. In fact, I think a very high percentage of employers do not recognize it, judging by the fact that most of the people I know, that are not working for the govt, or schools, are working today.

Guess that would also depend on where you live

MLK is the only individual, other than Jesus Christ, for whom the US observes his birthday as a holiday - not Washington, not Jefferson, not Lincoln, not nobody, not no how. Doesn't sound all that unappreciated to me.
