Oregon's Death with Dignity Act

Can a lawyer or Oregon resident answer the following question:

Why, after describing how a patient has a right to request a fatal dose of drugs, and the doctor the right to prescribe it, does provision 127.880 say the following:
"Nothing in ORS 127.800 shall be construed to authorize a physician or any other person to end a patient's life by lethal injection, mercy killing, or active euthanasia. Actions taken in accordance with ORS 127.800 shall not, for any purpose constitute suicide, assisted suicide, mercy killing or homicide, under the law."

It seems to me that it is precisely active euthanasia, mercy killing, suicide and assisted suicide??

Sounds to me like it allows doctors to only pull the plug and let nature take its course, not actually stick a death needle into the patient. Does sound pretty contradictory.

I am not a lawyer but I voted on this many times.

The doctor can write the perscription but the patient
must give it to themself.

I think it has to be pills so don't wait intill you can not
swallow.

I'm now thinking the clause must be there to avoid the impact of any other legislation (Federal?) outlawing active euthanasia and assisted suicide.

The act does seem to leave people unable to administer the prescription themselves, out in the cold.

Medical workers have been helping people die via overdoses of morphine for many years. It is not at all unusual. In order to be effective doses are gradually increased as the patient becomes tolerant to the drug. Eventually the dose is lethal. It is only a problem when the government gets involved. Another situation where loose talk ruins it for everyone.
