Can somebody*PLEASE* tell me how to get rid of the icon in my tray for "Dell Support Alerts"? I know I can go into my Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, but when I do that it tells me a file is missing... I've tried to get and add the file and it still doesn't work. I even got rid of it once and then it came back in a few days.

I know I can right click on it and close it for the day or so, but then it comes right back after a few hours.



I've followed the instructions I've found via Google... and still nothing, anyone have any real step-by-step method that works?

how to get rid of unwanted startup programs (my way)
click start then run... in the run dialog, type in msconfig and click ok
after msconfig has loaded, go to the startup tab, and uncheck anything you don't want to start automatically, click ok, reboot your computer, a small dialog saying something like:

you have changed settings with the microsoft configuration tool bla bla bla.

[] don't show this message again

so just check the checkbox (see above) and click ok. hope that answered your question.

Send Dell a bill for theft of services and if they don't pay, sue them.

I would be careful playing around with msconfig...but the answer to your original question:

However, if you prefer that the application not run upon startup, you simply need to:

Click the Dell Support tab.
Uncheck the "Run on windows startup" checkbox.
Click OK to save your changes.
The next time Windows restarts, the Dell Support application will not be started automatically.

Opposite click (thats my way of saying right click since I'm a left handed mouse user) on the Dell Icon and uncheck the boxes.

Right now all seems OK. I'll know in a bit when I shut down and reboot.

And trust me, I am *THIS* close to buying a Mac. My computer history goes as follows:

Until the 90's I was a Mac lover. When Jobs left Apple and scum-bag Scully ran the show I left Apple and went to WinTel. I have been looking for an excuse to go back to Mac for well over a decade. Boot Camp MAY be just what I needed.

Try this again except hit the center tab (Channels) and disable the channels you have listed. I haven't tried to disable the Dell Support icon on my computers so I'm not sure this will work.
