Amsoil vs. Mobil 1 - see website below

http://www.syntheticoildealer.com/amsoil/amsoil_vs_mobil1_supersyn_synthetic_motor_oil.htm[/URL]

This forum's moderator was very helpful told me what filter to purchase and the above-mentioned oil for my first Merc ever and a 2002 ML 320 too, so I was hell bent on following his instructions

I am from Ontario Canada, I visited Mobil1.com looking for suppliers of Mobil 1 synthetic: 0W 40.
Among others the Mobil1.com website listed Walmart (went to two - no stock), Listed Canadian tire (went to two - no stock).

Well I began thinking given my 1 week excursion for oil and no luck (now 6500.00 Km. since my last oil change), that this Mobil 1 above must be the best thing ever since sliced bread as I am reasonably intelligent but can't seem to locate the oil and I stumbled on the Amsoil v Mobil website.

Has any one else used Amsoil time and time again, what results, lab test???

Both are equally good. Amsoil uses Mobil 1 base stocks.

I use whatever I can get faster and cheaper, so far Mobil is winning their. All the local autoparts stores have the 0w40, so does your local MB dealer.

The whole amsoil marketing reminds me of Amway and other MLM scams that just irritate me to death. One of my friends got hot and heavy into amway several years ago and nearly drove me nuts with his pitches. The issue I have is that I have been in outside sales for years and when the only people you can sell are friends and relatives you'll go broke and you'll make all of your friends and relatives mad. Go sell the product on its merits, to strangers and people who have a need, not to me because our wives are friends.

I won't buy amsoil just on principle, I don't give a rip how good it is. I'll continue to use Delo 400 dino in 15w40 and go on my merry way.

I have to admit their salesmen are annoying. Not on this site but on other MB sites thier is a die hard Amsoil crowed, everything else is tar according to them. Really the whole die hard Amsoil fans turn me off to it.

Same here! If there is an oil thread started you can bet one of them will pop up and start a flame war on how good their oil is. You can't even do an internet search for sythetic oil without popping up all these user personal websites for Amsoil
I tried it once and now I too don't buy it on principle.

Those people are just retards and a product of amsoil advertising.I can't imagine there is even a noticeable difference between amsoil and a generic synthetic oil I can buy from cdn tires.

Thank you all for their continued assitance. But why 0W oil

Thank you once again and from your posts the following question comes to mind: -
Some members have mentioned Oil manufacturers alternatives and some of these alternatives do not sell 0W -40.

Now to me 0W indicates viscosity, weight. IOWords indicates the thickness of the Oil. So can I use 5W if the alternatives you members have mentioned only make 5W? synthetic as the Mercedez engineer and moderator from this forum said purchase the Fleece filter which I did? But now if I have to settle for 5W perhaps the Fleece in the filter won't be compatible with 5W only 0W?.

MAN WHAT A ROCKET SCIENCE PROJECT for the the simplest of procedures. I have done a 100 oil changes in my life using conventional 10W-30 whether in +20 deg celsuis or -30 deg celsuis in canada obvioulsy using a block heater in the latter mnths to compensate for 10W thickness but never went to 5w in winter always 10w throughout the year

0w40 is all that the new MB's spec, they have been using it for quite a while now.

I guess the idea is to build oil pressure real fast, 0 also lubes amazingly well at artic temps.
