I agree with this.

A while back (when was it?... a couple of years ago?...) when the OD forum was "sanitized" of politics and made "safe" for the emotional light-weights, I was largely uninterested, and so were a lot of our "regulars" who consistently contribute quality information and insight.

Like it or not, we swim in a sea of politics, and plenty of people feel like spectators only. I don't flatter myself that I somehow influence the world by posting on this forum, but it's better than nothing and I've no doubt that it enhances an ability to communicate cogently.
