May I suggest that Kuan summarize his gustatory threads into a digest? Just kidding. I'd like to see another food thread started, too.

I tried somebody's beer roasted chicken recipe (that wasn't the name, it's how it is prepared) posted on OD, I think. Anyway, it was a big hit with my family.

What is the attraction of a presidential library? What do they offer that a university library doesn’t?

If you have to ask, then I can't explain it to you.

Try. I've never been to a presidential library. I have been to several university libraries. What does a presidential library offer that a university library doesn’t?

An ego-stroke and hush money for ex-presidents.

Having never been to one, that comment strikes me as a non-answer. Do they have unique offerings?

Seems like a fair question that no one has an answer to. I've not been to a presidential library, so I don't know the answer either Mr. Lebenz...

Thanks for the response. So here seems the core problem with OD. Folks respond out of contempt and thereby assume that the only capacity of others is to do the same. I ask a direct question and get one “if you don’t know I can’t tell you” response and another response that is irrelevant to the question and a third that shows what appears to be sarcasm of the reason for presidential libraries. And then one direct answer. It occurs to me that for 3 of the 4 responders, they might want to look again at what it is that motivates answers such as provided.

This pattern as described above is not unique to this thread. It seems as if there is a weird codependency amongst many of the regulars, who can only assume contempt on the part of the others. I submit it is the reason OD has become what it has.

Why is it a non-answer, Tracy? It is what I believe. Is it "truth"? Damned if I know.

Nope, those are precisely the reasons for Presidential Libraries, in my estimation. I think it is wrong and a stupid, wasteful indulgence. Our version of erecting statues for kings. Egotistical hush money.

Now, why do you think these edifices are built? To what good purpose, if any?
