Help with music choice?

Allright, I'm getting kinda board with country music right now... Mabey its something to do with my mood, but I'm beginning to like some newer music.

Can anybody put a lable on it?

I like nickelback (animals, side of a bullet.. few others), Offspring (self esteem, keep em sepperated, others) Rage against the machine (Justify, renigades of funk) Red hot chilli peppers...

Stuff like that, I dont know how to describe it, but I know I like it...

Can anybody give me some pointers, or do I need to keep looking?
Thanks alot, I really appreciate it
~Nate

When I was in high school, we called it Alternative, and it also included cliched Alternative bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam. I think the kids may be calling it hardcore or something like that now.

I'm not really current on these things. I've been mostly listening to 60's and 70's hard rock, and various not-really-mainstream Celtic punk for the last few years.

It all comes down to preference, really... What music we like or dislike is one of the most personal, individual choices we make in our lives.

But since I am highly experienced, AND highly opinionated on the subject, I'll offer a list of my favorites as a suggestion. Classic stuff, new stuff, and some local and largely unknown bands thrown in for flavor.

Most of the stuff can be found on www.itunes.com, where you can test drive some samples of songs. A Google search should help you find access to some of the less-popular stuff.

OK, here goes:

Led Zeppelin, the Doors, Jane's Addiction, Clutch (if you don't know, you better axe somebody!... they rock!), the Cult, DLR-era Van Halen... OK, the first album with Sammy was alright...., the Police, Big Wreck, Black Sabbath, Prince, Jeff Buckley, Fishbone (20 years and STILL kickin' it!), Tori Amos, Soundgarden, Instruction (defunct NY band that kicked ass), Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pantera (RIP, Dimebag), Dag (defunct North Carolina band-damn, they were funky), Injected (defunct Atlanta band--damn, they rocked), Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, Bjork (strange girl, but amazing), Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks, old Tom Petty, AC/DC, Refused (defunct Swedish band that rocked), Talking Heads, The Art of Noise, Fiona Apple, Radiohead, King's X (once again, 20 years, and still rockin'!), Raging Slab, Muse, dropsonic (more local Atlanta badasses), A Perfect Circle (Josh, leave some gigs for the rest of us, will ya'?!), Mars Volta, AC/DC, Alice In Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, the Cars, Duran Duran (yes, a guilty pleasure, but hey..... at least I'm man enough to admit it!), Robert Johnson, Johnny Cash, Billie Holiday, Run DMC, Beastie Boys, U2, Finger Eleven, Seether (cool dudes--the most fun tour we were ever on!), Sevendust (more Atlanta bros!), Raging Slab, Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave (in spite of Tom's politics), Motley Crue, Motorhead, Portishead, Tricky, Pride and Glory/Black Label Society (Zakk is a bad mother****er), Michael Jackson (back in the day, when he was still black), James Brown, P-Funk, the Gap Band, Mother's Finest (Atlanta old-schoolers!), Metallica, the Eagles, Phil Collins (his early solo stuff)/Genesis, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Jimi Hendrix, Helmet, Seal, U2, Queen, Nine Inch Nails......

Plus I can't post this without recommending my old band:

www.myspace.com/doubledrivemusic

And a new band I've been recording with lately:

www.myspace.com/openskyseparators

That should keep you busy for a while.

Mike

Great to listen to!!

I,m delighted to say, even today there's some really good stuff to listen to, ie

Kelly Clarkson, (Walk Away)
Natasha Beddingfield,(Unwritten)
Five For Fighting,(Superman, 100 years)
John Bon Jovi,(Who says you can't go home sung alone or country version with Jennifer Nettles)
James Blunt, (Youre beautiful)
Daniel Powter (Bad Day)
Nickleback (Photograph)
GooDooDolls (Better Days)

..I would love to have someone burn a CD for me, I don't know how, but would be worth it, I would really pay!!

Absolutely some fantastic stuff going on right now..!!

Almost as much fun as back in 1966-67, the Airplane, Buffalo Springfield, Electric Prunes, the Animals,13th floor Elevator etc

I also got hooked on country and grew a bit tired of it. Then I got the Sirius radio and got hooked all over again. Channel 62 is called the roadhouse and plays OLD country from the 40's 50's and 60's. George Jones, Charlie Pride, John Conlee, Conway Twitty,,,, it's all I listen to any more. I know,, my head is in the sand or up my a__.

In fact, buy all their CDs.

Medmech, we need to start a Clash/Strummer/Lydon sub-forum.

I listen to so many groups I can't keep track. Mostly classic rock.

Rammstein and Metallica rule!

perhaps my single favorite song is "hotel california". have no clue what the words really mean, but absolutely love the guitar. my wife hates it but my youngest daughter (18) loves it.
