Excuse me...I have to go wash up. Wow.
Wouldn't it be so great if someone made something that looked like that today with modern features? Everything they make now is a jelly bean aerodynamic blob with no personality. Everything today in the way of sedans looks like a Camry/Accord, or a slight variation with high doors and tiny windows. A true new 4 door convertible would be so nice.

That's a survivor for sure! The car is apparently in Marin County, California, a very rich part of Northern California....
You can really tell it is descended from the grand cabrio models of the 1930s, it is really an elegant old car. This would be a real top of the line car, virtually handbuilt, an early "Adenauer" style postwar Benz that would be great for any serious collector.

That's one beautiful car! I'd love to own one. Something tells me that I don't make the kinda money that car will go for though - yet. I'm a big fan of the 1930s models too though, they were some really classy looking cars. There are usually some 1920s or 30s kit cars on Ebay now and then.

Speaking ot trading in beauty for the beast
Quote:
I didn't see him often, but ran intohim in San Rafael years later, and he was driving a 1981 Chevrolet Citation X11. I simply couldn't believe it, I asked him what happened to the Goat? All he said, was when he drove to the Chevrolet dealer in Novato to trade it in, all the Chevy salesman came running out to the street, wanting to buy it for themselves. That ought to have told him something. I can't to this day figure out why he did that... I would have bought the GTO for myself had I known....someone got lucky at his expense. He owned some interesting cars before that, a '66 El Camino, '59 Ford, '56 Ford F-100, '50 Buick sedanette......

That's what I hate about car dealerships, you pay retail and get wholesale for your trade-in.
My dad could have bought a mint one owner 22k mile gullwing in the mid '70s for around seven thousand, but after owning a 1969 MGC and having a family he was done with sports cars. I think the MGC turned him off sports cars more than anything. What really blows my mind is the crazy prices that people are paying for mass produced american iron at those hype filled televised auctions. I saw a perfect Silver Wraith barely make 30k, but people will pay 45k for a Dodge Dart with a v8? Go figure. |
