I'm using Symantec's Norton Ghost for my XP-system, although I'm not sure it does multiple partitions at the same time (probably does). Had a virus over the weekend that ruined my set up. Copied the clone back, and all was fine again.
Terrific programme, this Norton Ghost.

Yes, I support norton ghost...

It does allow you to copy (clone) the entire drive, oe just selected partitions.

i was able to do it using acronis www.acronis.com and two external hard drives. made an image, and extracted the image to the new hard drive, worked perfectly. copied all data and even the operating system.

Glad to hear it, but out of curiosity, why Acronis over Ghost? Is it free or something?

I bought Acronis TrueImage a while back, and the downloadable version cost $30, if I recall correctly.

It came highly recommended to me by a friend who is an IT professional.

I have Acronis, so some of this will sound stupid.

I don't believe Acronis will "Clone", but it will allow you to backup and restore an image.

I haven't used Ghost in years, and it's a very highly respected product.

Acronis though hs more features, it backs up my desktop nightly. You can even selectively restore from the backup.

Been way too busy to do anything except setup the backup and test it.

The acronis may have problems due to the USB driver. It's probably using some DR-DOS and that may be your problem. How many different file systems do you have mixed on the drive? NTFS, FAT, FAT32, RAW etc?
