Question for the folks that want to close our borders...

Lots of talks about how illegal workers are, etc. lately... more-so than usual from where I'm sitting.

So I have a question since I know we have a lot of people here that believe we should get rid of them.

How do you same people feel about buying things made in China? Shirts, Radio, whatever...

To a degree, but not so much that I won't buy them. Buying things made in China isn't 'great' for our economy, but one major difference is that it is legal.

Smuggling people over to pick avocados is not, and makes a big impact on our economy. Sure if we eliminated all the 'guest' freeloa-I mean, workers, fruit prices and landscaping fees and all the other jobs that they do would go up- but you'd be paying an American, and helping the economy.

Ok, but doesn't the cheap China stuff take jobs away from 'Merikans too? I mean after all, if we don't let the Mexicans in to pick our oranges those jobs can go to 'Merikans, No? -- Granted we'll pay triple for oranges.

So. By that same mentality... why do we allow a shirt made in China for $.50 in the country when it could be made by 'Merikans too? And again, granted. The shirt may now cost $5.00 to make... but gosh-darnit... a good 'ole 'Merikan made it.

So what is the difference?

And if we bought a shirt stiched by a 'Merikan worker -- wouldn't that help our economy by your way of thinking too?

Legal? Perhaps -- but does that make it right?

True -- I hear the same thing... but we're talking unskilled (or semi-unskilled) work. Sticking a nose on a teddy bear or stiching a pair of panies.

I don't think anyone should be allowed to be here illegally but in my opinion this racial bigotry has gotten way out of hand.
It's happened all through history with the Blacks, Jews, Germans, Irish,.....you name it.

We verbally attack the people least able to defend themselves. Then we make laws to oppress them and take away their rights. And the next thing you know were denying them the liberty and freedom this great nation founded to give them.

Does anybody recall what is written on the tablets on the Statue of Liberty?

What's the problem? I don't see it. Chinese goods are shipped here legally and those are illegal people. the come over here, pop a few kids out of the oven and we pay for it. I am less concerned with taking jobs away from Americans. If they come here legally, I welcome them. However, not if they ran across the border. What it tells people that did come here legally is "You fool! You spent all that time, got grief, spent lawyer fees, etc etc. There is a much simpler way."

What if I decided that it is simpler to steal food, clothing, etc etc than to get it legally?

You need to distinguish between those that plain want to close the border and those that are for closing the border to illegal entry.

How is it racial? The mexicans have the largest percentage of illegal immigrants. More than 50% of illegals are mexican. Even their Prez knows that and salutes them. Hell, even those here legally support them. How does that work again? You support a thief and you are just as guilty when he robs someplace.

Is anyone denying them anything that they got LEGALLY?

Times change. Now you have to do it legally. If not, you get what you get. I have as much sympathy for them getting shot, stabbed, raped, hung by the KKK or whatever as I do for a thief who gets shot trying to break into my house or anyone's house.

aklim,

so you're saying that you only care what is legal, not what is right. correct?

Here’s the question I’d like those folks to answer:

How do you feel about paying X times (start with about 3x) as much for food and housing ?
(……..roofing work, lawn care, fencing, road work……..)

And - Aren’t we looking at this a little @ss backwards? Is the issue that they keep coming here illegally?
Or, is the issue that we keep giving them a damn good reason to do so?

(Simply stated: If you have a hungry horse, and you pile carrots on the other side of the fence. The horse will jump the fence.)

When Henry Ford started motoring buggies the Congress should have stepped in and enacted legislation to protect the buggy workers. It wasn't their fault that mean old Henry Ford wanted them driven out of work and into unemployment. Henry wanted to make money by exploiting the people he threw out a job. It isn't fair.

If it wasn't for mean capitalist *******s like Henry Ford we would still have a vibrant buggy industry today.

What has that got to do with this? Right and wrong are based off a person's values. You can argue for or against the morality of abortion and be right both counts. You cannot argue that it is against the law to blow up a guy's house. I have to accept that it is illegal to go 55 in a 35. I don't have to accept that it is immoral to have an abortion. Based on current laws, it is illegal to run across the border and work. Is that in dispute? The chinese are making products cheaper than we are. Either we move off to other directions where they cannot follow or we get buried.

Why does (almost) every issue resolve to economics?
There are laws that govern immigration. Yes, I am a law and order guy.
The China thig is as much a red herring as anything I have seen. Chine is simply using their economic situation to expand their manufacturing and raise their standard of living. The parallels with European criticism of the USA something over a centruy ago are quite strong.
I don't care if lettuce goes up 50 cents a head. I will pay it. If that is the real priice for legally picked produce thats what it is. I absolutely rejest the concept that halting illegal workers will bankrupt the US economy--What BS!.
I do not sanction illegal behavior at any point.
A country that refuses to protect its borders is no nation.

Exactly. I especially love the folks that say, if an apple costs triple -- that's fine, I'll pay it. You know what I say to that? BS! It's all talk. And, yes, maybe YOU will pay it, but what about a person on a fixed income that is already finding it hard to make ends meet? Dam-be them?

And to all the "legal" people that think that since it is the law it is right. BOY!!! Some people are REALLY silly (read STUPID, actually, REALLY ****** STUPID!!!) -- When you say something like this, you must clearly not care about Black people, or women. At one point the black people were considered like animals. It was the LAW. Women, we property of men. That was the LAW... only, does that make it right!!!!!!!!!

Jeeze, Wake the F-Up!

The law says we can inject our foods with all sorts of crap... does that make it right? The law once said that black people were like animals, does that make it right? The law once said that a woman was too stupid to vote. That right too?

The law says it is OK for us to buy crap made in China by people that live in poverty and like animals... is that right?

Ick.
