Raw arsters are the essence of the sea. Annapolis MD has a tradition called the oyster shooter, which is an oyster in cocktail sauce, followed by a shot of beer (or vice versa!).

Now brains - - only brain I would consider is one made with vodka floated on Kahlua, then pour in a little Baileys. Looks just like a suspended brain, only much tastier I am sure.

Yeah, and I can't wait for the Oyster Festival at St Michaels on the Eastern Shore. The whole town is full of street vendors selling freshly shucked oysters for $5 a half dozen. Yum yum!!

Aside from oysters I scratch for myself when I'm supposedly pretending to be a scientist, the best oysters I've eaten in a long time have been in Appalachicola, FL. Can't recall the name of the oyster bar.

Also in NOLA before the flood was Felix's. have they reopened? I hope so. Last time I went was 2 years ago when Mrs B and I took my 2 daughters to Felix's for their first raw oysters. The shuckers were so charmed by them that they gave my girls some pearls. My kids were THRILLED!

We walked the quarter a couple weeks ago and it looked unscathed. I would be surprised if they weren't open. This is the slow season in the quarter, don't know if that may affect what's open.

Verti mart (dirty mart) and croissant d'or were open.

What does St Michaels look like these days? I haven't been there in 30 years. I imagine it has its share of condos and McMansions now.

Nope, still a quaint little Bay side town. Granted it is now lined with boutique shops and catered more to tourists than the local oyster men. No major developments in the surrounding areas, that's what I like about it. You still can park your car all along the "highway" on the edge of town and walk the short distance to where all the actions are. I think it is one of those places you will never get tired of, especially in the Fall where the leaves are golden brown and a little chill in the air.
