im in the market for a truck.. thinkin tacoma

ok heres the deal. my dad has an old mazda that is a total pos. it needs just about everything. i rebuild the engine for him recently but it still needs a carb(300bucks) and a radiator. its overheating and he has to drive 20 miles to work. i drive a 1/4 mile to work. he loves my mercedes and hes the one i got it from. hes in no place to have a car payment, so im gonna give him the mercedes back and finance a truck. i have done alot of looking and i really want a tacoma. i test drove a f150 today. it drove great the clutch was smooth and it shifts so smooth. but i really like the tacoma's. i guess what im asking is for opinions on what to buy. i wont buy anything gm or chrysler. so suggestions please

Ford suspension is setup better to do truck stuff, haul and such, off road things like that. But it'll be less comfortable than the toyota. Everyone I know likes whatever they have, and the ones with toyotas have different uses than the Ford guys. Personally, I would go with a Dodge because Cummins has to be better at making a diesel than the other guys, GM's are lame, but the Japanese haven't been making full-size trucks long enough to win me over, and they dont even offer a diesel that I'm aware. However, the new Toyota trucks do look pretty nice. Which is why I'd never own one, given the things I use a truck for.

i plan to do some haulin and a little trailer pullin. i really liked the f150 i drove today, but they want 13000 for a truck with 78000 miles on it. little too much for me. i know the tacoma and the f150 both have bilstien shocks. i love diesels but i dont need one in a truck. i dont plan to 4x4 with it so im not buying a 4x4, meaning i can buy a nice looking truck. im lookin to spend 20k max.

Dont get a dodge with an auto, Dodge sucks at building transmissions.

4x4 will cost you around 20%mpg, so dont bother unless you need it

I'd never own a toyota truck, arent they minivan based? They do make damn nice minitrucks, but not a fullsized one that I could drive.

Have you looked at 4Runners? They seem pretty nice. And up here every off-road enthusiast is looking for a nice used one that's never been used off-road, so I understand their re-sale values are pretty high...

I want a new tacoma or tundra. They are visually pleasing, and they have a nice ride too. And just like the honda thread, it is not going to require maintainence until 100k miles.

Now, if I could afford it, a G would be cool. Well, it is an SUV, but its cool... And its effective too.

On that note my girlfriend has an '02 Mazda B2300, which is pretty much the same as a 4-cylinder Ranger. It's been a champ so far, though it has little power to pass other vehicles. The only other negative thing I can think of is that if you're taller than 6 feet, your knee may start to cramp up on long trips.

Overall I'd give it a thumbs up. It's had no problems and does the job, and it was only about $14K brand new.

I'm also looking for the perfect Tacoma.

Late model 22R extended cab. Been looking for a while, not many 22R's made in the last few years.

i dislike chrysler. they have alot of electrical problems. 4x4 cost way too much for insurance. the tacoma is a mid size truck.

Toyota trucks are wonderful.I own a 1993 T-100 with 89,000 miles.Even though it has basically no options besides A/C,Heat and Automatic trans. it is wonderful.I have used it to basically use it like a truck.I dont hull anything, but I do fill up the bed with ALOT of stuff. That car is wonderful. The engine feels like it will last for a hundred years. If you perform basic services.Toyota engines are wonderful and if you are looking to fill up the bed or the occasional hulling (I have not hulled alot of things, but with the truck performed excellent when I hulled items)go for the Toyota truck.I wouldnt look for one that is as old as mine because they are very hard to come by in the condition that mine is in and the miles. Most are either used for work trucks or the owners have put a lift kit on it.Ive heard very good things about the Toyota trucks.I would go with the Toyota over all brands.

You can buy a fully loaded F150 in my area for that much!!! I saw a 2005 tacoma at the Toyota dealer. It was a little under 25k, and had the TRD package with the Elockers. It was metallic blue, and had a lift.... It was sweeeeeeettttt...... Then, I saw my other favorite japanese car... The Nissan Titan.. It is a sweeet truck. I would buy one if I had the cash.

the tacoma was fully loaded. you wouldnt like the titan after seeing the wimpy oil filter, and tiny oil pan. and you really wouldnt like it if you had to change the oil
