I'd go for a modern drive train and accoutrements in a 1930's or 40's frame.

You can then get a kit car.

Part of the fun in driving an old car is its...well, funkiness.

yea, I know there are kit cars for MB. There's a nice looking 1929 here in town. I just can't bring myself to even consider it since they are on ford chassis and have chevy engines and all that.

Maybe if I got one and put it on a 123 chassis with a 5 cylinder diesel, hmmmmm.....

I'm not in the target age group (I'm 28), but I have a few observations:

1. The '72 Newport was not the last good Chrysler. My first car was a '73 Newport and that thing was sweet.

2. I work with some guys who are in the target age group. One has an older Ford Bronco that he bought for $500 as a daily driver. He also just spent large money on a Harley-Davidson. Another has a '95 Dodge Cummins as a daily driver, but he and his wife recently spent large money on a Duramax to tow their RV with. Yet another has 18 '70's model GMC and Chevy pickups. He buys other stuff too, but only to derby them.

3. My mom is in the target age group. She doesn't drive much. Her previous car, a '90 Chevy Caprice police package, was stolen and never recovered. After taking some of my advice, she now has a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis, and a handgun.

4. My dad is a little past the target age group. In his younger days, he owned a lot of interesting cars, including the 1953 MGTF he bought new, a Truimph Spitfire, a '50 Mercury convertible (yellow), and a '71 Ford Maverick Grabber. More recently, he actually looked at a Volvo, but ended up buying ANOTHER '89 Cadillac. His last four vehicle purchases have been Cadillacs, all of the 80-91 full-size body style. The last one before that was a '73 Chrysler Newport that he later gave to me as a first car.
