I can see complaining about clothes being too skimpy (well not complaining, per se), but not about sweat pants. If she doesn't want you ogling her that's her business.

It's just that... oh never mind. If Oprah and Martha say it's ok then the divas have spoken and millions of American women will buy a different color for every day of the week. That's real style. Nothing turns me on more than seeing a woman wearing pajamas/sweat pants, and add a tube top and numerous piercings and tattoos.....mmmm sexxxxy.

I have to disagree. I think clothes are a necessary part of class. Could one still have class, and show up to an after six wedding in a pair of shorts and a Manchester United jersey (I have witnessed this).

Don't get me wrong--I am not saying 'class' is the best measure of a person, but clothing, bearing, carriage, posture, speach, ect.... all make up what is commonly referred to as class, imo.

edit: i meant to add that I have a totally double standard on what is acceptable behaviour for men vs. women, btw. freely admitted.

LOL!

Well certainly showing up to a wedding dressed like that WOULD denote a lack of class. Funny thing, I'm getting married later this month (gulp!) and on the invitations to the west coast folks we added a line about how they should be dressed.

No need to do that for the east coast folks.

Now where was this wedding where the guy (I assume it's a guy, anyway) showed up in a Man U jersey?

It's not un common to see girls wearing beggy sweats these days. It seems weird that some girls would decide to not car about their appearance, when they might otherwise look very nice. I suppose that the athletic look can be attractive in some places, but when you find it in reseraunts, shoping mall, and all over campus, it becomes a little excessive. I seem to notice this more and more as time goes on. In those cases, it almosts looks like they just showed up out of bed.

Thanks for bringing this up. I have noticed it also and there was a time when women young and old put just alittle more effort into their appearance. Today they look like they rolled out of the bed. Growing up we weren't allowed to go out of the house looking like some women do today. In the past one's garments denoted social satus and in some places it still is that way. Garments will tell you alot about a person not just socially (sp) but also how they are feeling about themselves. Women need to be adorned and that is what a good garment will do. Kinda like wrapping a package....sweats need to stay in the gym IMHO.

Haha on the East Coast/West Coast thing.

My friend (yes, he is a friend) had been living as an ex-pat for 7 years in Europe and Asia. Money not an issue. We had been staying at the Hotel Adolphus in Dallas for 4 days preceeding the wedding. The concierge ignored him when he went downstairs to line up a car to go down to Deep Ellum for a night of revelry, ostensibly because of his soccer jersey and leather pants. His comment to the concierge was, "just because I ain't wearing a suit, does that mean my money isn't green?" Well, later that night, security hassled him in his room several times, the front desk called, ect.....He tried to get the host family to lodge a protest, since he had racked up about a $3K bill at the Adolphus. They wouldn't get involved, so he showed up in his MU uniform at their daughter's wedding. It actually was kind of funny.

I think women who choose not to wear makeup or fix their hair a certain way are putting on an image in much the same way a woman who does those things is. The image is one of sincerity and a lack of pretension. I think it's a popular image and is gaining steam.

Ralph- If you had your choice of taking out a lady who was dressed nicely (garments fit well, no camel toe action) or someone who looks like they fell out of bed with baggy sweats, big sweat shirt and flip flops who would you take out? Rack size doesn't figure into the equation.

Not Armani

No, Zenga. How about you?

John Holmes III 07-10-2006 12:54 PM

Oh, but look at the way Paris and her "ex-friend" Nicole dress. That's hott, oh so hott. Her family should be proud.

Dee8go 07-10-2006 12:56 PM

Classy and well-dressed

I only go out with classy, well-dressed ladies. Of course, they have to have great personalities and be a lot of fun, too. The best ones have all of these qualities, in my experience.

All things being equal I would, of course, take the one who's better dressed.

All things are never equal, though.

Keep in mind that we men are easy to fool. We're easily fooled by a pretty face, but there are many other ways to trick us, too. Sincerity can be an easy disguise. Ok, I admit I lifted that line from 'Death to Smoochy,' which is a great movie if you haven't seen it.

The point is there are many factors that go into the choice of a potential partner, and looks are just one.

Death is a great equalizer...I don't know who said just thought I'd throw that in there.

What EXACTLY is, "class"?

John Holmes III 07-10-2006 01:14 PM

Good question. I thinks it depends on what your point of view is from a tiny spot in the history of man. People forget for one reason or another about the way it was. Things that were social mores forty years ago are considered old skool and/or eccentric today. It's the '60s hippies that really brought the US down a notch.
