Does anyone know of a good/equal alternative for Norton Internet Security? The package does seem to do its job allright, but it slows down my PC terribly. Start up and shut down also take ages.

Anyone?

Yessir. Google "AVG" and download it, it is a free anti virus software and works very well and uses minimal amount of memory/cpu power. Now for spyware you want Spybot-Search and Destroy (make sure to update and immunize). These two programs run very smoothly and you dont get freakin annoying popups every second from Norton. Also if you go to start menu, select run and type in "msconfig" you can check and uncheck waht programs you want to start up when you turn your computer on, it dramatically reduces startup and shutdown times. Basically uncheck anything that isnt your spyware/virus programs.

Actually, got AVG running on my notebook, together with Windows Defender. However, I tested a suspicious spam attachment at Virustotal.com the other day, and the result showed that NIS and some other av's had found a worm, whereas according to AVG the file was fine
This made me sceptical of AVG.
NIS does give you great security, but it sure works like a battleship

I heard that PCcillin is a good program. same price range, but they say it works.

I've been using PC-cillin for the past year. Both Norton and McAfee are hogs.

No real issues, and, it scans all incoming e-mail automatically.

i'll add to (ara)while in "run" get rid of the cookies too.

If your system is configured properly and a lot of the MS crap edited out, the AV programme is the best free system out there BAR NONE...
You need to make sure JAVA is NOT enabled 'Global', but on a site by site 'enable'.

AVG and Winders Defender with the complimentary monthly Mcafee online scan seems to be the right ticket.
