Was given an Ipod - where to get music

I'm 37 and have plenty of computer experience, but I've never owned a Ipod - with satellite radio in each vehicle I own, really never needed it.

But this thing was free, so I might as well use it. What website has the best music downloads?

iTunes will allow you to burn copies from your existing CD's or you can buy songs one at a time. There are other options but then that runs into copyright issue territory.

iTunes is the most seamless way to obtain tunes for your iPod. Works best if you have a Mac of course, but the Windows version works...usually.

My daughter has a Nano and downloads regularly from the iTunes software on my XP.

As I stated earlier, their Mac support is far better than their Windows software...right now, there is a service pack contention with the latest release...I can't get the install to work properly.

Last time I checked you had to have XP to run iTunes on a PC. You could run Winamp on 98 or ME, an iPod driver is needed. You can probably run Winamp on XP also.

I'm not an iPod fan myself, but got one free when my dad got a MacBook. Burned most of my nice CDs but I find it hard to switch from one to another, I have to search for each song.

If you don't like it, I'm sure others might like to have one.

Hopefully, you have not plugged in the Ipod into the computer yet, if you've got Windows XP.

Ideal situation is this.
Go to apple.com. Download the latest Itunes and Ipod updating software, two different programs. Install them.

Then, plug in the Ipod. Firewire is best.

I used existing CDs to load into the computer to have Itunes copy into its library. Between that, podcasts(which you'll really like), and CDs you can borrow from other people as well as your local library system, you'll have quite a bit to listen to.

I've never bought anything from Itunes. Podcasts are free. Everything on my Ipod is based on mp3s I've bought or the CDs as mentioned. Mp3s don't have the limitations of the Itunes format (aac).

If my Ipod dies,I don't care so much since I got mine for free as well. I won it at a trade show a year and a 1/2 ago it's the older style so a hard drive with moving parts. It will die, just when is the question. I treat it carefully for the mini hard drive that it is.

When it does, there are a ton of mp3 players out there at a far lower cost I can buy and use.

Assuming you'll have problems at some point, ipod lounge works best if your symptoms are exactly in the same sequence and description as someone else's.

In the meantime, I do really like the Ipod a lot, but still not enough to justify buying a new one when this one craps out.

since the ipod wasnt yours originally it will not recognize your computer as one of its "bases" and will ask you if you want to authorize your computer for this ipod( once itunes is downloaded) you will need the previous owners apple account ID and password to authorize..

For $35 buy a Belkin iTrip and you can wirelessly broadcast your iPod tunes through your car stereo. Mine works great although I have spoken to people that couldn't find a free/clear station - depends upon how many stations are used in your area.

I got the Sirius S50 radio when that came out so I could listen to it like an I Pod, but it just never seemed to easy to use. Now, it stays in my car all the time. I was given an I Pod for my birthday and have put every CD I own and everyone anybody would loan me into itunes and dropped them into the I Pod. I listen to it all the time when I'm not driving.

If you have a tape deck in your car, several companies make an adapter that runs the I Pod through your tape deck. The quality is better than using the FM modulator. Some car stereos have and Aux In that you can plug the I Pod into. That's the best solution. Hope you enjoy it.

Apple has the best product design of almost anybody. The click wheel is a joy to use. I was fascinated by it several years ago and have wanted one ever since.
