Luckily they fit in the back of the TD.
I do a fair amount of shipping of my steel tooling components. So, for me it's usually an issue of weight. I also crate or skid everything.

We've got an account with Central Transport and they offer 70% off their "rack" rates.

As an example, I shipped a 950 lb. crate (48" x 48" x 84") from CT to FLA for $275.00. For the heavier items (above 300 lb.) it's typically less than $.33 per pound.

However, on a 150 lb. shipment, I'll pay about $100. They are not kind to the lighter pallets.

I'm not sure if you will crate your stuff so that you can use an LTL carrier. Without crating, you can forget it...........as you know.

Brian,
Yeah, I am looking for a blanket wrap carrier. I tried one of those freight companies once. The bed multiplied before it got there. Started out in 2 pieces and progressed to 6 pieces during transit. And for me to build a crate....well lets just say I don't have enough time to get things done as it is.

Oh.....truck is working great. 23.25 MPG. Or 18 running it hard.

Pete.....you're asking a GM dealer to value a Chrysler.

Cheers,

Bill

Fair enough...
It was mentioned that the DR set is "fruitwood" -- is that correct? Or can it be something else?

Thanks,

Pete

I have an old Phillipine Mahagony table that was recently decommissioned. (One of the legs broke). How much does something like this go for? (If it were fixed)

Hard to tell, back then they liked to shoot colored laquer over birch and cheap walnut veneers to make it appear better than in would be if finished naturally.
Fruitwood{and my other dealer friend may back me up on this}refers primarily to the finish.

Yes Pete. Looks fruitwood to me. Might be cherry, which also falls under the fruitwood catagory.

Justin,

Need a pic of the table. If its one of those Duncan Phyfe tables from the 40's it's not worth fixing. Actually most tables would not be worth fixing a broken leg. It will always be weak where it broke. Don't toss it until I see a pic though!

EDIT: Carleton is also right. Fruitwood does refer primarily to the finish but with the particular style/vintage that you have I will still stick to my original thought of solid woods such as birch, pecan and the above mentioned cherry.
Cheers,

Bill

Thanks...

Ok, can I push my luck. What is the Bombe BR set made of?

I THINK it is called Cream color but it looks more gray? (?) -- what kind of wood is it?

Thanks again for the help... I'm trying to write an acurate description.

Pete

Looks to me like either a painted or a pickled finish. Most likely painted. Could be any type of wood underneath. It was common for factories to mix the woods meaning it could have some birch or even poplar in it. Then they painted or pickled it to hide the fact that it was made from two or more types of wood.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Bill

I was told it is called "Bombe" -- Not my personal taste, but apparently people like it. The dining room is actually starting to grow on me, but It's for sale. The bedroom -- hmmm. No, but I'd love to look at the Stickley you have. That's my speed.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Too bad you guys aren't closer to me. I know a guy in a neighboring county (retired carpet installer and part time stickley tinkerer) who just bought a diesel box truck with a lift gate and is looking for work in it (couldn't stay away from the action) I doubt he would be able to do great prices for you based on the distance to the job site but I could put him in touch with you if you want to pursue it. What are you having to pay and what are you wanting to pay is it miles+? I am in local deliverys over here but we are real busy running in tight circles

Sure. PM me his phone number/email address and I'd be glad to talk to him. I can hook him up with some other dealers too so as to make the trip worthwhile.

FYI.....I am located just north of Baltimore, first exit after crossing into Pa.

Thanks!

Cheers,

Bill
