http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1979-Mercedes-Benz-Wagon-280TE-280-TE-Ice-Cold-A-C-NR_W0QQitemZ110017707785QQihZ001QQcategoryZ6329QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#onPhotoChoice

Is this a column shift W123? I don't see a shifter between the front seats.

Sixto

In the pic of the instrument cluster, you can see the shift lever in the reflection. You can also see PRNDSL at the bottom of the cluster....right where you might expect to find the digital outside temperature display.

mercedes did some weird things with the W123.. larry at the gtg did you see the W123 book that belonged to the guy with the lowered CD..he translated it and said mercedes had an electric powered wagon, the whole care was nothing but batteries, and they had LPG sedans and stuff like that.. then you had the old german guy Klause that dug a hole to change his transmission in his 240D back in Deutschland

I did see that book....would've like to have read it...interesting pics of 123 prototypes too.
Yeah, Klaus....quite a character...But, why not dig a pit to fix his tranny? He had the backhoe, and more importantly, he had the right kind of soil to do it in!

When is our next get together anyway?

LPG was not a factory item... its all aftermarket and in Europe you can choose from hundreds of different makes to have LPG installed.

Column shift was an option in some models... and was available in models prior to W123's.

in 62 column shifter was all that was available. by 66 you could get one ont he floor, at least if manual.

in the 123 you could get a column shifter in some markets and i believe also a bench seat. i have never seen one though i dont think.

with a bench seat, a column shifter is nice. you can have your honey sit right beside you.... if there is no stupid consol.
