I recently bought a car (old saab convertible) with only half a stereo. The face plate was stolen and all that is left is what the prior owner says is an alpine head unit. I can't for the life of me figure out how to remove it. There don't seem to be any slots for inserting a removal key. And there is no separate trim piece that could be hiding the slots. Anyone here have any idea on how to get it out without removing/breaking the dash? Thanks!

The Alpine units that I'm familiar with have a tiny catch on the left and right side of the unit, which engages a slot in the steel mounting housing.

Look for these catches on the very edge of the unit..........both sides.

Lift the pin that is sitting in the catch and the unit slides toward you. Of course, without the faceplate, you've got nothing to grip.

That's the way mine comes out too.

Let me know if it doesn't work. I used to work with explosives.......

the pins were on the inboard side of the outer edge. I lifted them up and the unit came out. Thanks!

now take the model number off of it and get on ebay and find a faceplate.

alpine harness's are all the same untill you go with a lcd display one...

If you buy another alpine (not from walmart), you wont "get" to rewire it
