I did this a couple of times when I was in college and I had my dad's old record player. You'll want the following:
A decent audio card with quality inputs. A fair amount of disk space (at least a gig per hour of music) and lots of RAM. Audio editing software to clip the sound segments and any dead space, as well as amp the signal if you are not first passing it through an amp before you record. Mp3 encoder. LAME (use the variable bit rate setting, unless your ipod doesn't support it) is probably the best one, and it's free and reasonably fast. It's completely doable, but sooooo time consuming. Good luck.

I do conversions all of the time...LPs, cassette tapes, reel, minidiscs, CDs, and digital recordings off air, etc. I don't have an analog/digital converter, but I can tweak enough with the processing gear I own to make good quality recordings.
All you need are these few modest pieces of equipment and you're all set... ![]() My cassettes are dubbed off a Teac C-3 (but I do have a Nak 480 in the media room). The turntable is a Philips 867 with a Shure cartridge. The Realistic phono preamp DOES work fine (and I got mine for $1 at a garage sale). The 48-channel Behringer mixer does most of the work, but I have a few eqs and processors doing some as well. ![]() By the way these are month-old pics. I'm busy painting and reconstructing the layout a bit as I write this...I might post pics of the finished room in another thread...

I'm looking into Mackie's (semi-new) mixer.
The Onyx 1620, with firewire. have 16 channels right infront of you...
