Steve whats his screen name? If he doesn't return the tool his account is gone.

I guess unfortunitly something like this was bound to happen. That crimper was quite usefull, I used it over the winter and it worked great!

Anyone up for a GTG in Illinois? Campout on Highridge Pkway, bring well stocked ice chests, we'll order takeout and feed the neighbors, stealth recruitment. Any other tools you want? We may strip a car for parts while we're there too. I haven't seen the lay of the land, maybe a skeet shooting contest?

Plain fact is the guy turned out to be a larcenous-hearted A-hole.

You'll like as not have to write it off and chalk it up to experience.

Sensible suggestion above,we {all high mileage diesel owners who do their own wrenching}chip in say $10.00-$20.00 bucks each since the tools seem to fetch $175-$185{with or without adaptors??} and get the guy a new one,realistically I'm only going to replace one,definitely on the 617,perhaps on the 606 in a few years so I'll probably need it once.

I'll start the ball rolling,lemme know if and when and I'll post off my contribution.

Carleton, I just read your last post and sincerely want to thank you for the thought/offer. If I am not successful via the generosity of our fellow member making the trip over or via the USPS service, I will simply purchase another crimper. In the time I have owned it, it has already been paid for through this forum's tool rental program.

A lesson learned is also very factual. Larry Bible and others had suggested/used PayPal or other means of charging the value until it is returned. I didn't follow their advice and that means the blame rests squarely on my shoulders. Secondly, someone else had suggested watching how many posts the person had in order to minimize the risk of theft happening. Once again, I didn't follow that suggestion and this fellow, with only 2 or 3 posts, decided he wanted to keep the crimper.

If I get it back or purchase another I'll put it back in the tool rental program and just make certain it only goes to members that are solidly active. When I am done with my coil spring compressor I will be doing the same. I believe Brian Carlton did the membership a huge favor getting the rental/loaner program off the ground and I do not want to see this incident discourage others from continuing. As I said above, I have been paid back for the tool however I wish I had had a chance to use it once before it was stolen. ;)

Well, I admire your scruples and restraint,moreso that you seem to have not let this negative experience sour you.

let me just add a bit of my Grandpa's advice,which,the older I get,the more I see the wisdom of his experience.

He would say,If someone offers you something,no matter how trifling or expensive,always show your respect for them by accepting it,since it means so much more to the giver than the receiver.

Maybe a pm to Phaedrus? He is a higher up at a MB dealer in Chi-Town. Maybe he has met the guy? You better put in a watch on ebay for that thing. I wish I was in Chicago--this type of thing is sort of a specialty of mine:pirate:

I know I'm a forum newbie, but this sort of thing pisses me off. I'm just glad Steve is still willing to participate in the rental program. (But I would've asked for the deposit Steve.)

So anyway... what's the latest? What is USPS saying? If I'm not mistaken, mail fraud is a felony and you can actually call the FBI on the guy. That ought to make him "pack his shorts". :eek:
