Gas Prices...

What has happened over the last 21-30 days that have cause gas prices to drop almost 60 cents a gallon?

Can anyone explain this to me? Wasn't there a pipleline in Alaska that was off line and prices were supposed to go up?

My rocket scientist of a friend(not really, he drives a flatbed) said this morning that "they found a shotload of oil in the gulf" that's why prices have dropped. Lol!

Todays paper said it may go down to under 2.00 per gallon.

WTF?

Does it makes sense?

Actually, instead of paying .60 less, why were we paying more? What is and has happened to cause such a change in so little time?

Thanks:stupid:

Plantman 09-14-2006 10:46 AM

Well that is the best darn explantation I could have asked for.

Thanks!

cscmc1 09-14-2006 11:02 AM

I'm still waiting for diesel prices to drop to the same extent. Better grab a Snickers...

Dee8go 09-14-2006 11:51 AM

I don't know, but . . .

I don't know, but I'm happy. I hope this trend comtinues for a few more weeks. Better go out and get that V12, G Wagen, etc. quick, before the people unloading them realize they once again afford the gas to drive them.:D

Hatterasguy 09-14-2006 12:29 PM

If they stay cheap I'm getting an SUV, with a big red R bumper sticker!:D

Mistress 09-14-2006 02:42 PM

Never thought I'd say "WOOOHOOOOOO gas is below $3.00 a gallon here, but here goes WOOOOHOOOOOOO gas is below $3.00 a gallon here. I remember when it was 17 cents a gallon....:dizzy2:

Dee8go 09-14-2006 02:56 PM

93 Octane Exxon $2.75 today

I got a tankful of Exxon 93 octane this morning for $2.75 this morning. There IS a God!

Now if I can find that 560SEC I've been looking for and this trend continues . . . or maybe even a CL600. Woohoo!

TheDon 09-14-2006 03:05 PM

i was happy to see diesel down to 2.79.. but i can rember when not 2 years ago it was a dollar cheaper than reg

peragro 09-14-2006 03:14 PM

diesel $3.29/gal - no change in price for weeks

John Doe 09-14-2006 04:38 PM

Woo-hoo for lower gas prices and a second Woo-hoo for selling futures at $68/bbl.

Mistress 09-14-2006 04:41 PM

Where is BOT?

ForcedInduction 09-14-2006 06:13 PM

You freely admit that for all to read?:D

So when will they cut back on RUG production and pick up diesel production so that us diesel owners can celebrate? Sure, diesel has dropped too but its still the same or more than premium gas!

Cheers,

Bill

Hatterasguy 09-14-2006 07:34 PM

Its hard for me to be happy when diesel is more expensive than 93 octane. That bothers me a lot more than anything.

Me too. Diesels are all I have these days. Including the tractor! Pretty disappointing when I have to pay 10 bucks just to cut the grass.

I have asked several times in the past but I'll ask again. In '97 diesel was .82/gal while RUG was $1.25 which was the norm for years. By that i mean diesel was always way cheaper than gas. Then, by fall of '97 diesel jumped to the same price as RUG and has been climbing ever since, now surpassing the cost of premium. What the heck happened in '97?

Cheers,

Bill

Tanked up with 92 octane BP a while ago. $2.45 gal.

87 octane is at 2.25 and some of the independent brands are below 2.20.

Woo Hoo!!

Oh, BTW.....this is in KC metro area.

I appreciate your rampant cynicism, 450, but dout that $.50 a gallon gas would help the Republicans at this point. I assume that was your implication.

Even if it would insure another Republican-dominated election, I can't imagine how they could pull that off. I mean they're not going to sacrifice the dividends on their oil stocks!

alabbasi 09-15-2006 11:49 AM

I bet you a drink it will go up after the mid terms :) I used to always notice the price of fuel going down just before the oil companies would release those huge earnings.

I do not think this is to help one party or another, but maybe more to do with CEO's fearing an investigation if the Democrats win.

Don't get too elated. It can just as easily shoot back up again, beyond the record highs of this year. Maybe this is just a little teaser before the next supply disruption "disaster" happens. The only way to keep prices down is to keep conserving and retiring those SUVs.

2.29 for 93 octane

2.79 for shell diesel

After the 70's oil scare OPEC dropped the price tremendously for long enough to crush all attempts at alternate fuel and conservation. Prepare yourself for an extended period of low oil costs as OPEC tries to restore confidence in oil supply and keep you from buying an efficient car. After all, there was some talk of curbing our dependence on foreign oil. Any good pusher would do the same.

Coincidental? I don't think so. One week after the election is over and prices are rising around here, just as predicted.

11/14/06) WALL TOWNSHIP - Gas prices have been increasing in the Garden State and across the country for the first time since July, and motorists are not happy.

Many residents have their theories as to why the gas prices are rising. Some believe they have spiked because the election is over. Drivers have suggested the Bush administration conspired to lower gas prices before the election in the hopes of getting Republican votes.

The Oil Price Information Service, a group that studies gas prices, says with the Democrats moving in, there might be more pressure to move out of Iraq, which might impact fuel supplies. The group also suggests retailers are trying to cash in on the high volume of motorists expected for Thanksgiving Day weekend. Analysts say the prices will likely increase more after OPEC’s meeting in four weeks.

It should be akin to a law of physics . . . The ratio of the cost of crude and the retail gas prices never fall in proportion to its rise. :D

Therefore, the "forces" that cause it to rise are not entirely the same forces that cause it to fall.

From the US Energy Information Agency.

Crude Oil and Total Petroleum Imports Top 15 Countries
November 2006 Import Highlights: Released on January 16, 2007

Preliminary monthly data on the origins of crude oil imports in November 2006 has been released and it shows that three countries have each exported more than 1.40 million barrels per day to the United States, and one country shows exports of greater than 2.00 million barrels per day. Including those countries, a total of four countries exported over 1.00 million barrels per day of crude oil to the United States (see table below). The top five exporting countries accounted for 70 percent of United States crude oil imports in November while the top ten sources accounted for approximately 89 percent of all U.S. crude oil imports. The top sources of US crude oil imports for November were Canada (2.065 million barrels per day), Mexico (1.462 million barrels per day), Saudi Arabia (1.444 million barrels per day), Venezuela (1.069 million barrels per day), and Nigeria (0.919 million barrels per day). The rest of the top ten sources, in order, were Iraq (0.589 million barrels per day), Angola (0.505 million barrels per day), Algeria (0.253 million barrels per day), Kuwait (0.253 million barrels per day), and Ecuador (0.243 million barrels per day). Total crude oil imports averaged 9.836 million barrels per day in November, which is a decrease of 0.296 million barrels per day from October 2006.

Canada remained the largest exporter of total petroleum products in November, exporting 2.584 million barrels per day to the United States, which was a large increase from last month (2.144 thousand barrels per day). The second largest exporter of total petroleum products was Mexico once again with 1.571 million barrels per day.

I never liked 'em. They're slower, brakes aren't as good, handling not as good, ride sucks (in every SUV i've been in this is the truth).

What really turned me off to SUVs was when I had to brake real hard in our old Isuzu Trooper, and then get into the next lane as fast as possible. I think I got a wheel or two off the ground. It was a spectacular utility vehicle though... tons of ground clearance and large trunk/crap storage.

Then there's our Honda Element. Sweet shifting manual transmission, but when you are coasting in a traffic situation, and give it the tiniest bit of gas it will bob back and forth, makes me sick. The ride quality is crap, Not to mention useless trunk and the motor that sounds like a blender... Hondas usually sound pretty good at high RPM but not this one. At least there is a ton of legroom. Seats are made of a strange canvas like material that doesn't seem terribly durable.

Probably the worst offender was the BMW X5... had 19 inch rims or some nonsense from the factory (probably to clear those HUGE brake discs) so it rode like every road we were on was a huge series of potholes. It did go like stink though with 350HP.

I dont think I'll ever have one, I like aggressive cornering far too much :)

Hatterasguy 01-20-2007 10:31 AM

You drove the X5 with the sport suspension which I agree sucks. But with the regular suspension they ride slightly stiffer than my W126.

I like nice SUV's X5, G500, Range Rover they all seem to ride and drive good enough.

You will be glad to know that the Ford Excursion is based off the 3/4 ton truck but because of people complaining about the suspension, they softened it and gave it other wandering problems.

Hatterasguy 01-20-2007 01:02 PM

X5 doesn't wander, they will cruise all day long at 120mph to. Its a BMW thats for sure.

Hatterasguy 01-20-2007 01:27 PM

I used to hate them as well, but I have been spending a lot of time in one as of late. They grow on you, its really a practical suburban SUV.
