Dowsing?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dowsing
Anyone ever find water they did not know was there via dowsing?

I have found buried water lines by dowsing. Pipe was PVC. Used two bent metal hangers. I knew it passed somewhere under a lawn about 100 feet wide. Hit it first time, right on the money after dowsing.

I am a bit skeptical, still think its some sort of trick. I need to see someone do it in person.

I had a well drilled. The driller dowsed with a witching stick and drilled where it pointed and I got water. I did not have the money to pay for him to drill test wells in locations that I picked at random.

But I got water.

The article states that scientific experiments have not proven it can work. I have no idea why it worked for me. Was I picking up on a subtle impression in the earth from trenching the pipe to begin with and I subconsciously caused the wires to move? The odds of me hitting the pipe right on the money by pure chance are pretty high. So, either I beat the odds, picked up on subtle clues unconsciously, or there is something to it. Perhaps I have a direct connection to the eternal fount of wisdom. You make the decision.

dowsing does work, buddy's dad showed us one day and at first i thought he was full of s#!t,but i have tried it here in town and have found my sump pump drain pipe to the street, and on my acreage i have found tile i didn't know existed.it must have something to do with running water creating a magnetic field of some sort.kinda like my dad always used to say when we flew over water, the plane engine would start to run rough.

i found an old private sewer by dosing. an older fellow here did it for me.

another time about 15 years later he tried to find a sewer for me which i still dont know if it exists or not. he said here. we dug and dug and dug but never found any sewer.

so i didnt buy the lot.

it was an old lot that had set for many years and never been built on. it was in an old section of town along the railroad tracks in which the location of the sewer was unconventional to say the least. of course in those old secitons of town the city records are not at all complete.

so i can say it works. at least half the time in my personal experience.

it works....i remember when my grandfather in Poland was building a new well. He just ripped a Y shaped branch from a cherry tree and walked around the yard with it....he found water instantly. He let me try it out, there is a special way you have to hold it too but you can definitely feel the pulling of the branch towards the ground. It shoots back up as you walk further away from the water source.

The two coat hanger method has me believing my busted sewer line runs straight down my driveway. I will be digging it up after they mark the lines so I'll report back the pipe location relative to the marks I make when it gets dug.

I want to believe it's usefull but wonder if it's a best guess sub-consciousness tunner, or if there is something to the field that affects the body angle. I do know that standing still and thinking about water gushing up under your feet can cross those rods.

Back when i superintended new home construction, I had many occasions to find buried water and sewer lines. The monuments left by the developer had disappeared and we needed to do the house connections. I watched my plumber use variour bent rods to dowse for the pipes, and was skeptical. UNTIL he put the rods in my hands, and I felt them turn!
Then I talked with a friend of mine who confided, that if there are various pipes( Storm drain, gas, water, sewer) in an area, you will find the one that you are looking for, and ignore the others. He also had a method for determing the depth that was accurate to a foot or two for pipes buried to about 10'.
I haven't used the skill for several years, but still have some bent welding electrodes in my truck tool box.
