what do you do to relax?

yea.. i need to do that.. (im home sick doing online class work which is tre boring)

give me some ideas, perhaps i should go out and buy that gas rc car i wanted months ago... oooo or go take up hang gliding, their is a place by my house that does it

Zeus 10-02-2006 11:09 AM

Ideas? See recent 'Stoned Profesor' thread...;)

Kidding aside, I usually find that a good run clears my head and relaxes me at the same time.

running... gah. i think 2 seasons of cross country just ruined the fun in that for me :D

Dee8go 10-02-2006 11:28 AM

Nothing

When I was younger, the answer was nothing, meaning I rarely took the time to relax. Now, the answer is nothing, meaning doing nothing at all is the most relaxing thing I can think of.

Most of the hobbies I have had end up being too stressful, because I get so intense and involved in them that they cease to be relaxing anymore.:o

Good luck in your quest for relaxation.

Dee8go 10-02-2006 11:31 AM

Thanks, Black

Okay, you reminded me there ARE a few things that are relaxing.

Walking with my girl friend and good sex. THAT's relaxing.:D Intense, but relaxing. I guess it's been too long if I forgot to mention that the first time. . .

I retreat to the dungeon where I practice Yoga and if it's been a particularly difficult week, I'll smoke a beer.

Diesel4me 10-02-2006 11:45 AM

right now, with my current condition, hopefully this won't shock anyone but when i come home to relax i smoke my pipe and watch the boob tube.:) sometimes i even fall asleep.

Cherry tobacco? Um I love pipe and cigar smoke.

i like pipe tobacco too, but i always use an "alternative" smoking material. It really helps me to relax. I work 10-12 hours a day and with the way i feel right now, it really helps to be able to just come home, sit down in my recliner and not think about anything except getting all the seeds out.

I guess I missed something. What's up with you Diesel? I'm sorry you're not feeling too well.

Yeah, definitely get all the seeds out first or else avoid wearing synthetics. I put on a new UnderArmor tee shirt the other day and lit up (a cigar) only to discover a big hole  in the front when I got up to go inside.

i have a chronic form of Guillen-Barre syndrome called CIDP (chronic inflamatory demylineating polyneuropathy) and it makes my legs and hands hurt, makes it difficult to walk, and makes me tire easily. It's all i can do right now to keep the job. i'm getting treatment for it and slowly i am getting better.:)

Dee8go 10-02-2006 12:36 PM

I'm sorry to hear that

Is that something from which you can recover, Bill, or does "chronic" mean that it's a permanent condition? I've never heard of it before.

I'm sorry to hear you have it, though.

Diesel4me 10-02-2006 12:42 PM

we're off-topic now

it's permanent but i get treatments (infusions of immunoglobulins) every two weeks and it's slow to work but eventually it should take away most if not all of my symptoms. But the thing is, i have to keep up the treatments or i will get worse again. I have only had three treatments so far; hopefully in the next couple of months it will get better. My sister has the same thing and she has been getting infusions for 6 years now and she walks as well as any normal person now.

Dee8go 10-02-2006 12:51 PM

Good luck with that.

Feeling better is relaxing, especially after you've felt bad for a long time. I hope you will soon be showing the same results with the treatments as your sister has.

I enjoy shooting military surplus rifles, WW I and WW II era blued steel and walnut bolt guns, none of this black plastic AK-crap.

The range I go to allows shooting of damn near anything but glass, so I buy a case of cheap grape soda, shake the cans up, line them up, and shoot them...the whole place smells like grapes!

What's your favorite to shoot? I got a 8mm Yugo "Mauser" a few years ago which took forever to get the grease out of the stock. It's a nice shooter but the steel buttplate.....ouch. I always thought an Enfield #4 with the shorter barrel and conical flash suppressor would be interesting.

Cmullen 10-02-2006 09:10 PM

I am waiiting for my New sigsauer Blackwater P226 9mm. then i will have fun with it at the range

that will be relaxing....I hope cause i'm not relaxed much these days

davestlouis 10-02-2006 09:49 PM

My favorites are rifles that have been rechambered:
1. Dutch Mod1895 turnbolt Mannlicher, rechambered from 6.5x53R to .303 Brit
2. Hungarian straight pull Mannlicher, started out in 8x50R in a long-rifle configuration, now 8x56R carbine...worst recoil I've ever felt
3. Carcano short rifle, recut for 8MM Mauser...scary littel 6.5 LB carbine that kicks like a Missouri mule. Probably not really safe to shoot with hot surplus ammo, but I have shot it occasionally.

Howdy The Don,
I relax by taking the dogs out to chase jackrabbits. I walk along at a nice easy pace and the dogs do all the work.

Hatterasguy 10-03-2006 11:32 AM

I leave land. Land is a stressful boring place, full of annoying people.:D

Nothing like spending the day on the water, and the first person the mentions a schedual or having to get home, goes for a swim.:D

tc20 10-03-2006 11:44 AM

I'll go for a easy paced walk, not the most original answer i know, but we live right by the coast, theres some good views, and the sound of the water breaking on the rocks is soothing
Alternatley i'll read, or just sit down in a field, mid walk, and look out over the sea, not thinking of anything much at all. It hurts my brain when i think too much :dizzy2:

Diesel4me 10-03-2006 12:27 PM

I like to drive down to the coast, drive along the seawall, and occasionally ride the ferry from Galveston to Port Bolivar and back again just for the scenery. Very relaxing.

Shooting a few of my pistols, take a drive in my Vette, playing with my dogs and having sex. Not necessarily in that order or together.

FamilyGuy 10-04-2006 01:45 PM

Hanging at bars near college campuses... nake sure you take the wedding ring off and dye the hair/ moustache / beard

LaughingGravy 10-04-2006 01:49 PM

I listen to Old Time Radio or my collection of all of Jean Shepherd's WOR or Limelight shows.

t walgamuth 10-04-2006 08:57 PM

read, watch videos with mrs w., peruse shopforum, swim, do autocrosses, go camping with mrs w,. do garage sales, flea markets and antique and used book stores. collect books, pictures and interesting antique things like furniture, mirrors, and old doors which i install in my rental units.

last week i bought the most incredible old dresser mirror.

the last space i converted into a living unit i installed a very old fireplace mantel which appears to be mid 1800s. some wooden pegs and hand forged nails.

Mee too. I have four K98's and a bunch of Yugo's. Lots of fun, if your shoulder can stand it. I use a "Past" pad on my shoulder. Works wonders for diminshing recoil. Best part of it for me is my girlfriend is getting pretty good at shooting Mausers as well. :)
