I agree with WH, if you master the Muzzleloader most other guns are a cinch to master.

I am going to be ML shotgun for ducks this year, that sould be interesting to say the least, I think the sitting ducks will become my targets of choice to start.

Back on topic - I'm inclined to disagree with the points about muzzle loaders. The idea is there, but without proper guidance from an experienced person there's always a larger margin for error.
Point in case (and I know it's not strictly accurate to what's being discussed) a chap came to our club who had loaded his own for the first time - 30-06 triple loaded ripped his gun in half and gave him a few powder burns.

Just curious how do you triple load a 30-06?

The inquiry by the club said that he had triple the grain allocation in the bullets (we have very, very strict rules about what we can and can't shoot at our range, unfortunately).
All I saw was the gun split in half, him with a load of powder burns up his arm, and various bits of shrapnel in scattered around.

So he was hand loading? That is much different than muzzle loading if you over load with Black Powder the result is a boom and a whole bunch of unburned black powder.

The point I was making is that fiddling with the more complex areas of these things is not always a good place to start. It's like a kid who's never worked on a car before being asked to rebuild the engine - it's going to end in tears.
Start with the simple, then work up to the more advanced.

I've been toying with muzzleloading for some time now. I think I'll take it up in the new year.
