I've never smoked a cigarette in my life, and I find it to be among the most vile, revolting habits on the planet.

But I STILL think that no-smoking laws are fascist.

why is there an add for colon clensing at the bottom of this page?

ANYWAYS, if you smoke, be considerate. DONT THROW YOUR ASH'S OUT ON THE FREEKING ROAD. I JUST washed/cleaned/sealed/waxed my trofieo, and somebody threw a but out of their car, and landed on my winshiled (at 55mph, when it's dark, it explodes in orange)

I floored it, passed them, and then hurled about a dollors worth of change out of my window... I think they noticed, because they backed off a good ways afterwords.

Smoke burns my eyes, unless it's flavored (like vanilla/cherry swishersweets )

Yep. Let them smoke til they puke. I wouldn't mind if proprietors advertised smoking or non-smoking bars & restaurants and bait shops or whatever. Put a sign outside and let folks make-up their own minds.

Exactly.

If you are a business owner and you WANT your business to be non-smoking, then that's fine, and you'll certainly have me as a patron.

But the government shouldn't be FORCING business owners to have a non-smoking policy.

You don't "have to go" to bars, nightclubs, restaurants, etc... Any reasonable person knows that if you go to a bar, there are going to be smokers. If you can't deal with it, then don't go. Drink at home.

I'm OK with the government prohibiting smoking in government buildings, public transportation, etc... but in private businesses... NO.

Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.

Individual rights ARE common sense.

Compromising individual rights by legislating "thoughtfulness" is a dangerous and slippery slope.

How do you feel about private clubs not allowing members of certain ethnic groups or sexual orientations into their membership? See if you can square your smoking policy with that one.

Why?

Why would you have the law discriminate against one business but not another?

For things to be fair and just, laws should apply to EVERYONE, or NO ONE. There is no middle ground.

Which brings me back to the point made by the original post of this thread: Smoking bans are fascist.

I'm fine with that, personally.

It's a PRIVATE club. PRIVATE means exactly that. PRIVATE. You own the club, you make the rules. If I don't like their rules, then I don't join.

I have never understood why anyone would want the government to force a club to admit them when they are not wanted... What's the point of being a member of a club where you are not welcome? I'd much rather go find one where I AM welcome.

this is a matter that is already settled in law is it not? i have never been comfortable with clubs that exclude on gender or race.

No, it is not a matter that is already settled in law. You don't want to exclude on gender or race, but are perfectly fine excluding someone who wants to have a smoke on the porch of a restaraunt?

i have no problem with folks smoking out side of a restaurant.

when they are in the next booth i have a problem.

this subject kindof parallels riding a motorcycle without a helmet and driving cars without seat belts.

folks who believe in freedom to kill themselves probably, if smokers, think they should be able to smoke anywhere.

you use a lot of probablys and make a lot of assumptions but won't address the hypocrisy of your position.
