I have a .22 WMR. Got a shot off at a coyote recently. Hawks terrorize our birds. WMR shotshells are pretty quiet. Many a trapped racoon fell to the WMR before they were wiped out in our area by a very selective bug. You have suppressors all around you, adapt.

They must BE small ones Bot! Even then, you are obviously making good head shots.

I don't take long shots and I shoot small hogs. Who wants a 400# boar? Give me a 40# pig and make my friends and family happy.

The Paladin is a Gen 1 scope. It gives good resolution at 50-100 yards in good moon. When overcast and under a forest canopy you have to use the IR lamp and that's good to maybe 30 yds of good resolution. To me, good resolution is a dead certainty of hitting the brain cavity. I don't shoot moving animals and I don't take long shots. I'm a sure-thing-only shooter. I don't get a lot of shots.

Not particularly. I just think it would be cool to have a 007 rifle! But damned if I want to pay for a license. So it will remain an unfulfilled prurient dream.

My dad got his first rifle when about 8. it was a winchester 56 single shot junior size 22. It was soon his job to kill the hogs when they were butchering. He shot them right between the eyes.

I have that rifle now.

The under-appreciated 22 mag. A great cartridge for many reasons. The can fee is 200 dollars, 200 dollars PER. The sticky part is you have to have a dealer and a particular suppressor already picked out. Hard to figure out which one is best as there are lots of them out there and they range between fairly expensive to crazy expensive. BATF takes their sweet time issuing the stamp too. 6-8 weeks. Helps if you already have a fingerprint card.

My neighbor to the north pulled out of his drive onto the FM road, barely went 1/8mi and nailed a big hog with his late 2000's F-250 PSD. Damned near totaled it. He couldn't have been been traveling over 40mph at the time.

an 06 is serious overkill for either species. Machismo rears it's ugly head. I use big boolitz to prove my pecker isn't as teensy as that waitress girl says it is....

I don't know if I can immediatly say that an .30-06 is overkill on hogs. The one shown there seemed quite small, but they can get decent sized (while leaving the mythical "Hogzilla" out of the equation). I've shot them before with a .270, hogs in the 200 to 250 pound range, and didn't feel I was overgunned.

I'll agree to .30-06 being a bit much for coyote, but if it's what you've got, it'll work. Especially since most folks aren't too worried about damaging the meat on a coyote.

Mostly, I've just never been one of those guys who had to have a different gun for everything. A .270 or .30-06 will handle most of the game in the lower 48. Just get a decent rifle, decent optics, and a bit of practice, and stop worrying about the differences between a .308 and a .30-06, and whether or not a .338 Win mag is enough gun for a 160lb whitetail (for the record I'd call that one "overgunned").

But I'm hardly an expert. Just a guy whose waitresses say nice things about before they know what caliber(s) I use.

I disagree. You need a weapon that does the job. A .30/06 will kill it. Hell, if deadfall traps weren't illegal they would be useful, too.

FYI, I have 65 gr .30/06 ammo. Uses a sabot. If meat is your object that would be a good load for a big pig.
