Yep, you are right... it also has to do with how far "east-west" you are in a certain time zone. If you are in the western part of the eastern time zone- then you get more light in the evening. Someone mentioned "dark at 4:30". That is the case for many areas in the "eastern" part of a time zone- especially the northeastern part of a time zone. Luckily for me (since I like the extra light in th evening), we are in the southeast and in the western part of the eastern time zone- so the earliest we get dark is about 5:30pm in its shortest stage. In the summer- we are light until a little after 9pm.

I think that some parts of the northeast (in the eastern part - like Maine), it gets dark around 4pm. I would go nuts.

To update... I looked up Caribou, Maine's sunset for Tuesday and it is 4:18 pm.... and I thought our 5:36pm sunset on the same day was bad.

Farther south this daylight savings thing ain't so bad since the amplitude of the daylength is less. The farther north you go, the greater the differences between seasons, hence the twice-yeary whine from the north.

I hate it too. When I used to drive cab night shift, on my days off during the winter, I'd get out of bed at around 2 pm and it would be dark before I knew it.

They (we) tried staying with DST all year back during the Carter admin. - energy crisis, we'll save energy, like, DUH...

But then you had kids waiting for the school bus in the dark.

I move we split the differnce. Move the clocks 1/2 hour forward and leave them there from now on.

I read somewhere that well over half of IN's drive-in theaters closed after DST was implemented, too. The movies were starting too late (after dark) and business just died off to nothing. That's too bad!

Yep, me too. I've been waking up at 4:30 a.m. every morning since the time change, but the problem is that I'm going to bed late.

You will get used to it. The time zone line that goes by IN is in a weird place. IN really should be in Central time, IMO. But when I used to live there (IUB grad school) I enjoyed the set up the way it was- always EST.

Tom W.

Years ago when I lived in Cincy, the line between EST and CST was the Ohio / Indiana border. Then later on I believe the line moved over into Indiana and was a ragged thing depending on which way each county wanted to go. Sounds like they have moved it all the way over to Ind / Ill now. Bottom line is, I always thought we had the best situation in Cincy being so far west in our time zone. When I went to grad school in Champaign Ill it was really bad to have winter street lites on at 4:15 in the afternoon!!! Hated that. Here in NE Okla it is close enough to west end of CST that it works well for me, however I would prefer to be on Daylite saving time year round and forget Daylite wasting time!!

Sounds to me like your body just needed the extra sleep, what with all the early 4:00 a.m. wake up times.
