Skip traces

Do you know of any public web sites I can use to track down deadbeats? I have the SS# of some people, if that can help me.

there are sites i am sure.

but in my experience if they dont have the money they arent likely to ever. now if they have a profession and are just down on their luck, you might get your dough later. if you have a judgement you can garnish their wages if they are gainfully employed.

i have several of those but have never yet collected any dough.

Wow, I did not know I was missed. Thanks! I have been pretty busy since I left Snap-on and bought a Matco route. Most of the time I can get the guys to pay, they honestly will make an effort, but I still have a few guys that literally have dropped off the face of the earth.

I've seen plenty of places on the internet that will find people with whatever information you have. Can't recall the names or addresses right now, but I'm sure they would come up in a Google search.

The ones I've seen charge per search and have varying levels of information. Try "background search" or something like that.

Good luck!

You might check your state website to see if they have court records online, like this database in Wisconsin: http://wcca.wicourts.gov/simpleCaseSearch.xsl

If someone has a criminal, civil or traffic case on Wisconsin circuit court records over the past 10 years or so, his name and probably address and date of birth is in the database.

Damn, I wrote a detailed response and it got killed by forum maintenance!

Long story short: don't go tracing down people with their ssn's unless you have a clear understanding of the FDCPA of 1994. You will lose your Matco rig in short order. I would shop collection agencies and lawyers for the best rate that fits your debt structure (hourly, percentage prior to litigation, ect....) and let them handle a couple and learn how to do it from them then do your own later. You can get in some real trouble under the FDCPA, seriously. You will collect cents on the dollar if anything with an agency, but it is a cheap education on how not to get sued and lose your assets to a professional deadbeat.
