The exact same jokes that customers tell, ( How can you tell when a salesman is lying?....His lips are moving) are told by salesmen ( How can you tel whan a customer is lying?) with only the roles reversed.

I know you are a nice guy, but you don't see a real issue with saying you trust someone, but spy on them anyway? Either somebody doens't know the definition of trust, or has an issue.

Actually, I never say "I trust you". Secondly, I have long ago told my wife that I verify every now and then. That is as far as I can trust. As to anyone who needs my trust, they know it is NOT going to be a "Lifetime membership" deal. If they don't like it or can't deal with it, they can not work with me. I can live with that.

Question. IS it still spying when I have already informed the other party that I do check up every now and then on what they say and/or do? That was in my disclosures a long time ago. Who was it who said "Trust but verify."?

What can I say? It is a way that works for me. Can't have a "one size fits all" plan. Oh well. Doesn't sociopath mean anti-social basically? I would think I would fit into the "trust issues" department. I'd sa it is just like whether to have kids or not. To some it is a "must have", while to others it is a "Would be nice" and to others, it is an "either or" and to some it is a "don't want" deal. Guess we all have to find what works for each of us. If it works and doesn't hurt anybody, is it so bad? Would it be better to adopt a policy that works for others but doesn't work for you as well just to conform to what others do? Assuming of course that it hurts nobody.

Any salesman who proclaims that I'm getting a good price--what he means is that the price is very good FOR HIM.
Been there done that. Had a salesman try sell me a trailer for 1300. Told me it was the lowest it could be but he might be able to go to 1250.Said he wasn't making much profit so they have little to cut. Showed him an ebay sale that went for 1050 and told him he could go check out with them since they had another to sell me for that same price. I take it for 1050 today or I walk. Suddenly, 1050 was doable when it wasn't a couple days ago. Hmmm. A coupel days ago, I told him that I would check on his best price and if it was good, I would take it. If not, I would tell him. He even told me that it could not get below 1200 anywheres I would go.

Wonder where I get the idea that at some point or other, people lie. Everybody lies. It is just a matter of when they do it and not "if".

oh i dont know, i think most folks are pretty honest in our country.

not all lies are created equal, either.

like for example...." i see you have a new hairdo.... i like it".... doesn't really rank up there with ____________________________________________ fill in the blank.

i ran into an old friend at the y this morning who is a big iu fan. he graduated from their law school and has always enjoyed taunting purdue fans about the championships.

i asked him about bobby's latest transgression.

he said there is no excuse for him touching a player at all. he said it is a personality flaw... that he is insecure for whatever reason and needs to make it up by intimidating kids.

he also said he saw john feinstein speak about the subject the other day ...he said that bobby has already suffered the ultimate punishment....he will not retire from the school where he made his name. although he is one of the best at coaching ever (by record) he will always be remembered as the one who got fired from iu for hitting and throwing things.

interesting thoughts from an iu fan.

Until crunch time, you bet. Same as any country.

Maybe, maybe not. However, if you do tell a lie, how do I know that you won't graduate to a bigger one tomorrow? Kinda like my buddy's wife. One day she just got caught going on some dates that led to nowheres and he forgave her. later on, well...... Who's your daddy was an appropriate question for the kid, lets just say.

Great. More mindfux speak. Assuming psych is even believable, he gathered all that from 3rd hand or maybe 4th hand info? Bet I can find you a mindfux that will say there is no real issue with enough money. Remember that woman who gave her kids a rock party? 2 mindfux from the defense said she was insane and 2 from the prosecutors side said she was sane. Who to believe? Depends on which opinion you can buy.

aklim,
John Feinstein is one of the best sports writers in the country; several published books. Every book he writes becomes the authority on its subject. If I were to guess, it would be that is information comes from direct observation. He does intensive research before writing anything. I believe he is the only sports' writer to have complete and unrestricted access to the Baltimore Ravens. I think he had sinilar access to the ACC basketball teams when he was researching that book.
Don't be so quick to poke fun at him just because you disagree with his conclusion.

As for the "trust but verify" If you haven't remembered by now it was RRR.

But he was speaking of matters political with an adversary.
To carry that to a personal relationship is really extreme. I am sorry that you have been hurt so deeply.
Maybe I'm lucky, but you could wave a $ million, or two, or $ten million at my wife and she would not betray my trust. I understand that's rare, but I treasure it.

mine too.

and i know quite a few folks who would have the same standards.

if you are truthful you are truthful. the thing about saying someone looks nice really doesnt count as a lie. to really count as a lie the teller must benefit from it.

to make folks feel good about themselves the best way is to tell them things that are true about themselves. most folks just dont bother to say nice things to others at all so when you do it is a good thing.

i have a lot of small contractors that do work for me. generally i trust anybody who works for me completely after i know them for a while (or they wont be doing work for me). and i have a key safe by the front door of my house. if i need them to do something there i just give them the combo. i have been doing this for 20 years i suppose. i have lost nothing yet.

people from other countries wonder how we can have those newspaper machines where you put in .50 and take a paper. they say "why dont folks take all the papers?". well, they dont, that is all there is to it. now granted there are probably places where that wont work, but in most places here it does.

i have had many many experiences in my life that confirms to me that most folks are honest.

i have had at least two experiences in which folks went out of their way to testify in hit and runs to help catch the culprits. once i was one of four witnesses to one in indianapolis who stepped forward with a license number when the police arrived. none of us benefitted directly from it and all of us took time waiting while the police arrived. i didnt realize there were three other folks who stuck around to do it til they arrived, until the officer said "are there any witnesses?". three of us had the same number. one person had two of the digits reversed.

trusting folks is not a character weakness, it is a strength.

As I understand it, it was his friend that came to the conclusion and Joan F was saying that Bobby has suffered the ultimate punishment. I don't believe in psychologists and psychiatrists. IMO, the way they gather the data is scientific but their conclusions and what not are pretty much as SWAG. I poke fun at the mindfux and their silly conclusions not Joan.

Thanx.

Actually, it is more of a personal obsevation that leads me to the conclusion that people are going to screw up at one point or another.
