rental car tracking - going out of state
Enterprise has a rental provision for unlimited miles in state or 150 miles/day if you take the car out of state. I assume this is not on an honor system. Does this mean they track the car's georgraphic location at all times?
When I retire, I'll read all the fine print I skipped over earlier in life ![]() Sixto 93 300SD |

I suppose they could track it with a LoJack type device.
Years ago, I was in the rental business as an agent for a small dealer owned company - there was a no out-of-state rule, but back then we had no way to enforce it.

That's interesting. I recently rented a minivan from Enterprise to take out of state, and got unlimited miles. Perhaps the length of contract matters as well.

I get the ads that read the same Sixto, I guess it may also be to curb the outflow of cars to other states for one way trips. Another idea is that they make more money on rental days than they do on excess mileage and similarly they can save money with a cap the mileage to cut down overhead of vehicle maintenance.
Perhaps there are different regulations for insurance coverage in other states? |

I rented a car from Enterprize this weekend to go buy another benz. I told them I was taking it to utah and they didnt care. I didnt tell them when I returned it that I did 110mph in it and lit up the front tires. Im not sure how they would feel about that.
I have on my desk a GPS tracking device for rental cars. It has the ability to shut off the car from your desktop computer. |

I used to get a kick out of renting a car at the San Diego airport. They went to great lengths to explain that the car was not allowed to go into Mexico.
Just before I was leaving the counter, I would ask, "Do you have a map of Mexico?" They'd almost climb over the counter to get the keys back (before they realized I was pulling their leg). |
